I didn't even know what Corex was until yesterday when I started researching it - I went back and bought these three ivory cups that I had seen a few weeks ago, these mugs were made in Canada in the 40's - they're in perfect shape, I paid $1.50 for each one. Pyrex in Action: Yummy Brownies

Hello Pyrex Lovers, SixBalloons here! I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day! I have to share some photos with you of some yummy and easy brownies we like to make at home.

I like to use my workhorse Pyrex pieces - the yellow Fridgie and raised lettering measuring cup. We don't normally have dessert or cake mixes in the house, but when we stumbled upon this one, we figured we had a winner.

The best part about the brownies is the nice crust that develops after baking. Yum!

Of course I have to serve these on Pyrex too, namely my beautiful Delphite side plate. Mmm, I love the corner piece. Pyrex Meet-Up/Trade Toronto

I picked this piece up just over a month ago on the big auction site. It is a 4 quart 444 with a very attractive red design. I can't find a name for the pattern, though most describe it as a Gypsy theme. I gave a little more for it than I normally would (or a little more than a little more) but I have been wanting this piece for a long time so I used some money I got for Christmas and picked this up. I have seen pictures of a smaller bowl before which I believe just had the cart on it and no horse. Not sure, but I think it was a 442 bowl. Can anybody shed some light on the name of this piece or when it was made?

Resistance is Futile

If you've followed my previous posts you know that I stick firmly to my self imposed rule of only collecting Aqua, Orange and Daisy/Citrus Yellow.

I broke my own rule.

How could I resist? It's the special grass green color that I've only seen two pieces in (The crazy quilt and this utility dish).

Here's out it looks with the rest of my collection, it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, just kind of blends in to the aqua.

(Sorry for the bad lighting. My overhead kitchen light is out)

I'm so glad they didn't make a whole collection in this color, otherwise I might be in trouble.

Black Fridgie

I come across these online every once in a while, and finally I stumbled across one to make my own. It is a 503 large fridgie. All I ever see is the 503 - I have a feeling this might have been an individual piece and not part of a set, but I don't know for sure. Does anybody know anything about this piece? Was it part of a set? Did it possibly come with some kind of a stand? I personally think Pyrex would have made an awesome set using this black piece, a red 502 fridgie, and a couple of gray 501 fridgies (I've never seen gray fridgies - or anything other than dinnerware for that matter). Maybe I'll buy a couple of dishwashed to death fridgies that I can spray paint, and create my own set to go with this!

I'm not positive if this is delphite or not, I do not have much experience with it - I only own one delphite refrigerator dish & it is thick, these seem rather thin, they are unmarked, I don't believe they are Pyrex, but can someone shine some light on them for me?

I am wrapping up my series on thrifting in Victoria, BC where I was on vacation two weekends ago for a wedding.

My favourite find of the trip was this beautiful Pyrex Butterprint fridgie! I loved it even more when I saw the price tag...

Primary Cinderella Bowls...

...okay, this wasn't originally a set. I saw a set of these someone collected on the big auction site one time and decided to recreate it. To the best of my knowledge, Pyrex never made a primary set of bowls in the Cinderella style.

I do like the way these colors work together. I had a hard time deciding between the lighter more pale yellow or a more golden yellow bowl that I came across. If I come across a decently priced golden yellow 443 sometime, I may try it with the set to see if it looks better. Anyway, the pieces have all been picked up individually, mostly online (living in a tiny little town 45 minutes from the nearest thrift shops can make collecting locally a little difficult). I have been trying to determine which sets each of the bowls originally came from, and I believe that the little green 441 is from the Verde Square Flower set, the blue 442 I believe is from a Horizon Blue set. I am unsure what set the yellow 443 came from, does anybody have any ideas? I am fairly certain that the red 444 is part of the Friendship set.

Has anybody else collected pieces that didn't originally come together to create a new set?

hi everyone!

these two blue bowls are my latest finds.

i bought them last weekend at a huge sale hosted

by a women's group that fundraises for a local museum

i put them next to my primary set so that you can get an idea of their true sizes.

they are marked 483 and 485.

are they new?

are they old?

any one know what they are?

of course, these are the good. and now for the bad and the ugly. this refers to behavior and thankly not our precious pyrex. my rant for the day....this morning i went to an estate sale. it was called for 9am and i got there about 10 minutes early. by my best guess, i was number 17 in line. as soon as the doors opened, the line moved quickly and we were all allowed inside the teeniest tiniest little house. but people were being so rude! pushing and shoving to make their way thru. grabbing and grabbing at everything in the house

in the end , i saw one woman with two spring blossoms (444, 443), and i had found a yellow desert dawn pie plate. i stood in line to pay and noticed that a couple of older gentlemen ahead of me had a blue stripes 401, and bg 401 and a yellow stripes 402 amongst other items they had found. they paid and moved out to the porch to wrap their stuff. i paid and also went out and politely inquired about the striped bowls. would they be interested in letting me buy them? no...did they collect pyrex.....no. were they planning on re-selling them? YES! ugh..

ok so i guess i'm mostly mad at myself for not arriving earlier. perhaps i've been spoiled up to now as i've kinda felt like i would go to an estate sale in my area and i've been the only one scooping up the pyrex. so now, i've got these guys as my competition?

its getting competitive out there folks...

Jewelry Drawer Organization--Using Pyrex!

Hello Pyrex friends! Anna from Victory Garden Yarn here! I just thought I'd pop by & share yet another way I like to use bits of my Pyrex collection around the house! Since I live in a rather small one bedroom apartment, with the boyfriend, while operating my handcrafted business out of my living room, and while continuing to amass a somewhat large collection of Pyrex, we have to be quite creative in how we use and store it all.

(Otherwise we might get crowned with the dreaded title of Hoarders...)

At the beginning of the year we decided our apartment needed to be completely cleaned out & overhauled in order to set up a home office for my business--yippee! The task was (and still is, not done yet!) rather exhausting, but I had to start somewhere. I decided my incredibly unorganized & downright chaotic jewelry drawer was an excellent place to start!
Here's what I did:

I took all the bits & baubles out of my little drawer and proceeded to scurry around the house finding just the right height of pretty Pyrex to lay in the bottom. Luckily, small pieces of Pyrex like teacups, my lime green brownie dish, and the teensy 8oz casseroles fit in my drawer perfectly!

I nestled enough pieces in the drawer so things won't shift around too much when I open & close it (this took a bit of time to get just right, be patient!), then used those pieces to organize things like sunglasses, handkerchiefs, rings, watches, and hair clips.

I placed in the bottom of the teacups & small casseroles a few of my delicate antique pendants & pins that tend to get lost easily, then hung my earrings around the edges so I can see & find them all in a pinch!
(Which is funny, I haven't worn earrings in a few years! Maybe I'll start again now that I can see them...)

The top of my dresser was a cluttered mess of lotions, potions, perfumes, and a few random hair products, so I grabbed one of our extra large charger pieces of Pyrex dishware and arranged it all rather neatly on the plate.

Those chargers/serving plates don't fit comfortably in any of our kitchen cupboards, so I'm happy to be able to 'store' one in a handy, useful spot where I get to see it on a daily basis.

I've been using my drawer in this lovely & organized manner for almost a month now and I absolutely love that I have all my pretties in there to greet me whenever I open it--including some of my beloved Pyrex collection!

Hopefully I've inspired some of you to reassess how you use pieces of your Pyrex collection! I know I love being able to enjoy mine as much as possible, whenever and wherever possible around the house!

P.S. My jewelry drawer is one of the smaller drawers of a Hemnes 6-drawer chest from Ikea--it's quite a common dresser, so if you happen to have one you can easily do this with some of the same Pyrex pieces too!

Gourmet Trio

I have completed the set of Gourmet casseroles, I believe. Does anybody know if they were made in any other colors? According the Pyrex Love, the bottom piece was a Winter 1961 promotional piece. It is delphite blue with white paint fired on with a gold leaf design. In the middle is an opal white casserole with black print, and on top is an opal piece with a butterscotch fired on paint and gold leaf design. All three are the 2.5 quart size, and I love the way they look stacked on top of each other in this picture!

Pyrex Everywhere at Value Village

Hello Everyone, SixBalloons here! We were out of town last weekend in Victoria, BC and we thrifted it up, starting at a huge Value Village.

There I found several pieces of Pyrex, including an Opal Divided Dish, Shenedoah Casserole with lid, and dishwashered Terra casserole.

There were also several glass pitchers and carafes.

There was also a huge pile of Pyrex restaurant-ware in the red and gold trim.

Read more about the prices I saw there, and what I decided to do in the end at my original post. I spotted lots of other great items too, as that was definitely the largest Value Village store I have ever visited. Don't you just love thrifting while on vacation??

Homestead Red?

I am guessing that this piece was made as an experiment at the Pyrex factory. The pattern is somewhat off-center, but the biggest giveaway is that it is RED! To the best of my knowledge Homestead only came in blue and brown. The seller of this piece was in Charleroi, PA which is the home of Pyrex. This furthers my belief that it was an experimental piece. Anyway, it was a great deal at $10, and I love adding unusual pieces to my collection.

Does anybody else have any unusual pieces? I came across a green Woodland bowl once (still kicking myself for not picking up that one!).

Ugly Pyrex, Pretty Pyrex

How would you like to pay $7.99 for a really faded 403 yellow bowl? I sure wouldn't !! I don't understand how Value Village can put something so clearly damaged out for sale.....

On the other hand, I was just washing up some Pyrex - lunch was over, baking was done, it was dish washing time. Isn't Pyrex just so pretty....

The Eyes Have It!

I have been wanting one of these for a long time! I found this one with a very reasonable "Buy It Now" on the big auction site and scooped it up shortly after it was listed.

I mostly collect the promotional pieces, and they aren't easy to come across around here (actually finding any Pyrex outside of an antique store is almost impossible around here), so most of my promo pieces have been purchased online.

Here's a recent find from a thrifting excursion to a flea market - a 2.5 quart Ocean Filigree that I picked up for $9. I was very excited about this one, and almost overlooked it as it was buried under some other stuff.

Anyway, I took a little time tonight to take some pictures of several of my recent promo pieces (and a piece that I think is something that the factory made as an experiment). I'll share more in the next few days!

What I didn't tell you is that I put it in my buggy (the one on the left. duh!), nestling it in the seat part of the cart in some clothing items. But a few minutes later I shifted the contents of my buggy and the bowl slipped out through one of the leg holes and crashed to the floor and exploded.

Weird Oval Pyrex

I found this weird piece of Pyrex at Goodwill this week. Have any of you ever seen anything like this? It has a design on the inside of it and looks gold from the top and blue from the bottom...see pics. Came with the stand for about $5. I didn't buy this one because I don't have enough space to store it (it's very large) and I didn't absolutely love it.

Stacking Pyrex

When I first found out that collecting Pyrex was a thing that people shared on flickr, and here of course, I loved to seek out pictures of stacks of Pyrex when I had some free time. My favourites were always the space savers, oval casseroles, and fridgies. I hoped that one day I'd be able to make some fun stacks too, once my collection grew a bit. I added two new spacesavers this past week, starburst and black rooster, and thought it would be fun to make a stack of my own.

I hope she doesn't mind, but Jeni from in color order has some of the best Pyrex stack photos around. I just love looking at her collection.

Pie Plate Used for Advertising

Turquoise Riddle

I found this large bowl at an estate sale this morning. When I first saw it, I thought it was plastic, but was puzzled why a plastic bowl would have such a price. When I picked it up, I quickly discovered it was glass. High quality milk glass like Pyrex. Unfortunately it is unmarked on the bottom.

The bowl is 4 inches tall and 10 inches wide. It has a high quality fired on paint finish like you would find on a piece of Pyrex. The only difference is that the fired-on finish is on the inside as well (reminds me of a piece of Hazel Atlas). The white splatter paint on it is raised and easily felt when touched.

It is my hope that one of my fellow Collective members or followers will be able to identify this mysterious piece. Any help at all is appreciated!

Some Pyrex for Christmas!

Christmas just wouldn't seem right without getting at least one piece of Pyrex - I was lucky - I got two. My son found this 403 Friendship bowl - only my second piece of Friendship - I love it!!!

I've never even seen one of these Pink Leaves platters before - it's huge, measuring about 12 inches across, I did see some pics on Flickr and apparently there is also a cake pan in the same pattern - anyone know anything more about it?? Thanks so much to Susan for this great piece of old Pyrex!!

Best Pyrex Finds of the Year!

Hello Pyrex Collective - it's SixBalloons here! So last week, I posted about things I regret buying at the thrift store and got some really encouraging feedback saying that I should talk about some of the hits!

Of the Pyrex finds, I have two standouts in mind:

My Promotional Pyrex Aqua Blue Scrolls bowl from 1959 - I cannot believe it was sitting on a shelf for two days at Value Village before I came and rescued it.

This glass Pyrex Measuring Cup likely from the 1930s! It has a chip on the handle but I love it because I use it EVERY time that I bake. It's my go-to liquid measure cup.

Pie!

For Christmas I made two pies and of course used my Pyrex. Wanna see? Good!

The first was a pecan pie I had made before with ok results. This time it turned out much better.

The second was a deep dish apple pie. I only have one pie plate so the cake pan does a beautiful job holding all the apples.

I served them with homemade ice cream and whipped cream 'natch. The apple pie was declared the best ever by no less than four people. I'm convinced it was the Pyrex (and my mad baking skillz)

Some of my huge collection of vintage Pyrex was put to good use for Christmas. I'm not a great cook, unless you want boxed macaroni and cheese and frozen pizza for Christmas dinner. So, I took some of my vintage Pyrex over to Mom and Dad's and Mom put it to good use. Here it is in action!

THE PYREX NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house  

Not a Pyrex was being stirred, not even by a mouse;  

The Christmas casseroles were laid in the fridge with care, 

 In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

  The children were nestled all snug in their beds, 

 While visions of colourful fridgies danced in their heads;  

Everything was now all nicely wrapped,

 And I had just settled down for a long winter's nap,  

When out in the kitchen there arose such a clatter, 

 I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.  

Down the stairs I flew like a flash,  

Tore open the French doors and threw up the sash. 

 The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow 

 Gave the lustre of mid-day to baking dishes below,  

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,  

But a miniature sleigh full of Pyrexware.  

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,  

I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

  He started taking out Pyrex dishes of great fame,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;  

"Now, Butterprint! now, Butterfly Gold! now, Friendship and Daisy!

  On, Snowflake! On Spring Blossom! on, Homestead and Horizon Blue!

The Wonderful Scents of Christmas Baking with Pyrex

There's nothing quite like cookies and squares baking to create the heavenly scents of Christmas and put us in the mood to celebrate.

My girls and I did a whole day baking session a couple of days ago. Pyrex was of course invited to the party!

My daughter looking quite fetching in red, blending the mix for Puttin' on the Ritz squares in the perfect accessory to her sweater, a green Pyrex mixing bowl.

Here are the squares ready to go in the oven, in a Snowflake casserole.

Magic Squares fresh out of the oven in a rare Embroidery pan, one of my greatest thrift finds.

It came with the cradle!

Pyrex Lovers, I found one of my first duplicate pieces on my way home from the mall... I couldn't resist stopping at the church thrift sale.

I was quite surprised to see the Dandelion Promotional 1959 piece - Interestingly enough, Mr. SixBalloons purchased this same Pyrex Dandelion dish, with lid, for me at the thrift for Christmas last year... And now I have two!

Blue Pyrex Mixing Bowl in Terrible Condition!

Hello Everyone, SixBalloons here! It seems like Christmas has really snuck up on me this year, but I still can't wait... especially for a full week off of work. =) I have been cleaning the house of some of my junk I have been accumulating, for bringing to the thrift store.

I couldn't help picking up this 401 Primary Blue Mixing Bowl at the thrift for 50¢... But what terrible condition!

Pyrex Hunting - a Hit and a Miss

First up is the Hit - a mint condition Butterfly Gold gravy dish. Found this at Savers and I almost missed it! There was really nothing good out, but I took one more look around and found it! It had just been put out :)

Happy Holidays Pyrex People!!! let the celebrations begin...with pyrex, of course!!

'tis the season to display my seasonal pyrex. ok, i live in california, but i've lived where there is snow, so i can appreciate a pretty snowflake when i see one. so, in keeping with season, i've now packed up my spring blossom, daisy and pink gooseberry pieces for the next few months, and the snowflake pieces are on display

so, i've slowing been finding the snowflake pieces over the past year, but this 045 1961 christmas promotional piece appeared at a thrift store last weekend. now for a thrift store, i think it was pricey, but it was in their "finer goods" section. really? its a thrift store!!! whatever, i sucked it up and forked over my $20.
look!! it even has its original lid! and a hearty thanks goes out from me to its previous owner for (apparently) only using for the holidays and hand washing it. its shiny and spectacular!
too bad i don't actually celebrate christmas, but i still love it...and the craziest part? i saw the same casserole, but with a plain lid at an antique store the following day....and the price? yeah, antique store crazy at $70.
but, you know i couldn't leave the antique store empty handed with all the pyrex on display, so i got this golden acorns space saver for $10. i know you all believe me when i say it was the least expensive piece in the store.
anyone else have their seasonal best out on display?

Friendship or Daisy, that is the question?

Hi everyone,

My Pyrex finds have been slow lately, but I recently updated my bookshelf with some Pyrex, and I need to ask if the two orange ones are part of the Friendship or Daisy series.

My new display on my bookcase. (Although you can't see the orange decals, it matches the blue and orange ones, I'll need to find some red Pyrex for the shelf too)

This is the smaller casserole, I know it is a Cinderella casserole, and it is marked 471, 1 pint.

This is the bigger casserole's bottom, it is an oval casserole, marked 043, 1 1/2 quart.

Finally Found Some Pyrex

It seems like I haven't found any Pyrex in ages and that's not good - but I finally found a couple of items.

The 402 Spring Blossom Green bowl was $4.99 at Value Village which is high for my store - hope they're not raising their prices - usually this size is $2.99 - I think that's a big increase...

The cute little carafe is only about 6 inches high - I paid $2.99.

This weekend I picked up a divided casserole for an amazing deal. Check out the pictures to see why...

Blech! It was so filthy. I can only assume it came from a crazy hoarder's house. It's a safe assumption no?

I took it home and put it in the sink filled with hot soapy water for a few hours and then emerged this...

Hard to believe it's the same pan right? Soap and water did this. Behold the magic of Pyrex! So easy to clean. I wonder why the crazy hoarder never bothered to clean it?

I bought it thinking it was Daisy yellow, that's how dirty it was, it seemed like another color! It looks to be Butterfly Gold which isn't a color I collect. Would anyone here like to trade for it? I'm on the hunt for Orange 404, 402 and 401 bowls and a Daisy Yellow 404.

Frankly I'm a sucker for any orange, daisy yellow and aqua piece so if you're interested let me know!

Today I came across some Pyrex finds including these two 8 sided bowls.

I was so excited about this find, that I haven't cleaned them up yet! I wanted to show you all as soon as I could. Have you seen these bowls before? I've tried to google them, but am unable to find anything similar.

They will come in handy on Christmas Day when hubby and I sit down and have a bowl of raspberries and cream. Merry Pyrex-mas!

This year I started a new tradition.

I had a full Vegan Thanksgiving last night.

It was delicious AND healthy, and it was wonderful to get some thankful time to just my man and myself,
before the bigger, full-family celebrations :)

To make matters even better, I served it entirely out of my vintage Pyrex.

I realized that I have a lot of autumn colored pieces.
I would like to find more Christmas hued ones, this holiday season.

Serving out of these beauties really does make the meal taste even sweeter, doesn't it? ;)

Does anyone know if Pyrex produced transparent fridgies, and if they did, would they say Pyrex underneath?

I saw a glass dish that looked like it could be a Pyrex fridgie, with ridges like on the lid, but no Pyrex mark. It was longer than the average fridgie

Red Pyrex Fridgie from Value Village!

Hi Everyone, it's SixBalloons here!

I took a photo of this little red Pyrex refrigerator dish quite some time ago but realize that I never got to share it!

I found it at a Value Village store for $2.99. I've seen little fridgies of this size at VV before, but in such varying conditions (and yet STILL the same price) that I was happy to scoop this little guy up. The red is faded in some areas, but it's mostly bright, shiny, and comes with a glass lid. It's even the older style glass lid with lines on either side of the clear glass.

I love this little size because it's perfect for storing small leftover portions. I also use it sometimes for holding garlic cloves on the countertop. =)

Snowflakes!

I found these Charcoal Snowflake space savers (1 1/4QT and 2 QT) yesterday, after a huge drought. They were taped together and marked $7.99! I was so excited- I have a divided charcoal and a casserole, so these were a perfect addition, and even came with a lid! As I was standing there hugging them, I looked along the shelf of dishes, and what did I find?

A 2 1/2 QT oval casserole! WITH LID! Oh, happy day! It was marked $5.99. I also had a $.99 pack of ornaments, and when I went to pay for my goods, she put them in a box for me. I was looking at the register, and it said $9.69. She said I could pick up the box around back, and I told her I hadn't paid for them yet. She smiled and told me the price- again- $9.69...so I happily paid! I don't know what happened, but I got a sweet discount- and an early Christmas present! We are having our own family Thanksgiving dinner this weekend, since we are going to an Aunt's for the actual day. So technically, I could serve my Thanksgiving dinner in Snowflakes and be totally ok! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

A Golden Butterfly 664-this thing is HUGE!!! I had no idea this even existed!

Turquoise 401 on the Floor

This is the first time I've ever broken something in a thrift store - it's sure not a very nice feeling when it hits the floor and even worse when everybody starts staring at you. And to make matters worse, it was a 401 turquoise bowl in mint condition, selling for 50 cents. I felt so bad - I'm still thinking about that beautiful little bowl broken to bits!!!

I wanted to give a set of Butterfly Gold bowls to my niece as a wedding shower gift, but I lacked the 401 bowl. I set out to make the rounds of the area antique stores, hoping to find it, but not really believing that I would. At the second store, I found the exact bowl I needed, in perfect condition. It was sitting on a table with a variety of other odd bowls. Hurray! How often does that happen?

I also found a Bluebelle 402 to complete another set. I just love that soft blue color.

One of my favorite holiday uses for my Pyrex: Containers for floral arrangements. Today I'm taking two Cinderella bowls to my friend who has a floral shop so she can make centerpieces for my Thanksgiving tables. I probably ought to get my turkey, too....

A Few Pyrex Additions

I found the lid to the Sol Flower ages ago, and figured that for $1.99, I'd do my research and see if I could find the matching bottom. I'd totally forgotten about it until I happened to come across the bottom in a thrift store last week for $2.99. They are now reunited!

The Mod Kitchen, on the other hand, has been on my wish list for ages and I never see it anywhere - even for a ridiculous dealer price. So I finally broke down when I saw it on Etsy for $10. Woo hoo! I try to thrift as much as I can, but every now and then you have to take extreme measures!

Hey y'all I need some insight! This weekend I went to antiquing and found this little gem for $20. I have seen it only one other time in Alabama for $40 and that only included the one large bowl and lid, but this one included large bowl, lid, and 7 smaller bowls. I haven't seen this in any of my Pyrex books so I was wondering if anyone knew what it's called? I know its a member of the primary colors collection but I'm not sure what it is. I don't know what's been going on at the thrifts lately, but the Pyrex finds are few and far between (actually, I suspect that all the good pieces are being sent to the online goodwill auctions, where the prices go sky high). Fortunately, the few pieces that I have found over the past month are ones that I not only don't have, but are fairly uncommon as well. I guess, in the long-run, the drought will be a blessing to my bank account (and my full cupboards).

Weekend Away Means Pyrex Purchases!!

We went to visit our daughter this past weekend - I think we probably checked out about 8 antique warehouses and a few Value Village stores along the way. There is just so much Pyrex out there - a lot of it is WAY too expensive - not within my budget, that's for sure...

It's such fun to come upon a display like this but not so great when you look closer at the prices..

Those prices are just too high - $20 is my limit for a piece and I even have trouble with paying that - it has to be something I really want. I was lucky enough to find a Mod Kitchen the other week at Value Village for $3.99 - no lid but one of those will turn up.

Needless to say, I didn't buy anything at this booth or even in this shop but I did get some real nice pieces -

It was a beautiful day yesterday for outside pictures - they're just so much nicer outside. I found these 402 bowls at a Value Village, $3.99 each.

At the same Value Village I found this set of Homestead bowls - $1.99, $2.99, $3.99 - someone must have been getting rid of their Pyrex - I've never seen that many pieces at one store and I left some behind for someone else!!

I have other treasures to share - namely, more Pyrex and a few other things - come over to my my blog and see what my new favorite piece of Pyrex is!

Hi there, I am a Pyrex Collective follower and came across a beautiful Fire King casserole today in the color of peach lustre. Although not Pyrex fabulousness, it is a pretty casserole!! Now for my question. It came with a lid that fits perfectly and I just noticed it says Pyrex on the handle of the lid. Did Pyrex make lids for Fire King?
I am new to the Pyrex world and so I have no clue about this kind of stuff, I just know I love it and I love Pyrex and the Pyrex Collective! Thanks in advance for any assistance!

A Unique Use For Pyrex

Last week my family and I were at the Bolsa Chica Reserve to do some bird watching. The interpretive center has a small display of local wildlife and what did I find?

A king snake in a Desert Dawn cake pan! His neighbor had an opal Anchor Hocking cake pan for its digs; I couldn't help thinking that this guy got the better deal.

Happy Halloween fellow pyrexers!!

I just wanted to share some of my recent additions and some random thoughts...bear with me :)

So, I've been collecting Pyrex for just over a year now. It is not uncommon that I get all kinds of comments from the "peanut gallery" about my collecting. I'm sure you've all heard similar remarks about being obsessed, needing an intervention or some such nonsense.

Let's think about this...I could have some really awful addiction like drugs or alcohol. Pyrex..not inherently bad for your health. (Ok, maybe you need some gloves or moisterizer to help with the hand washing).

A single piece of well thrifted or estate-sold pyrex is significantly less expensive than a pair of new shoes or a fancy designer purse.

Anyone can go online and find something they want they go to the store to buy it. When thrifting, the thrill is in the hunt. You enter the store ( do they all have that smell...you KNOW that smell) and quickly walk to the housewares section and hope that no one else is headed there and looking for pyrex, too. From twenty feet or so away you think you see something and it turns out to be...

...really???? an early american solid brown 404??? only $3.99? your heart skips a beat!! can you honestly tell me that you get the same rush when your strolling through a department store? not me

Well, enough musings for one night. In case you were interested, the horizon 045 i picked up yesterday for $6.99 and if you look closely, she's already in my fridge with a greek salad for a work potluck tomorrow. I also managed to complete my sets of the harvest wheat and the woodland casserole sets so I thought I would share those, too.

And that snowflake lasagna dish...talk about my heart skipping a beat!! I orginally saw it at a local thrift store that has a "vintage" section. It was mark $50....um, thrift store!!! not antique store. Anyways, they have those colored tags so I just happened to be there on the day its tag color was at 75% off so it only set me back $12.50. And that little yellow dish ($1.49) is my new favorite dish in my kitchen.

In advertently, I've been hunting for the solid blue 402 from the blue horizon set if anyone has one that they would be interested in trading

Bowls!

I managed to snag some bowls in the Daisy yellow. I bought these from a seller on etsy. I've only seen the 401 at flea markets and it's always in sad shape the the seller usually wants $10 for it and is unwilling to go lower.

I paid a little more than I would've liked for them but they are in great shape, they're the exact school bus yellow I love and my birthday is Tuesday. I've scored some pieces for one or two dollars so I figure it all evens out.

Yesterday my fiance and I went for a nice fall drive to pick up some pumpkins. We stopped at one of my fave antique malls and got so caught up in all the goodies that we were too late for pumpkins by the time we left. I hadn't been since the summer and I was pleasantly surprised to find it stocked full of new, delicious Pyrex! I had to limit myself on how much I could spend because there were so many pieces I wanted to bring home with me!

This is what I came away with...A Town and Country 444, a Daisy 472 and 473, a turquoise Butterprint 475, a Snowflake Blue oval casserole dish (which I had no idea even existed before then), and a charcoal snowflake space saver (to replace the one I re-homed a few months back and decided I really missed).

I was so excited to find the Butterprint 475. Now the 474 is at the top of my wish list, so I can complete the set. Even though I love collecting some of the more rare dishes, Butterprint has always been one of my favourite patterns..roosters, farmers, wheat stalks, turquoise and white..how could it not be?

I've been really into these opaque lids lately, Daisy and Friendship especially so I jumped on these dishes. I definitely over paid for the two with bottoms, but I still paid less than I would have online (shipping to Canada is painful!) and I have been looking for them for about a year with no luck so I justified the splurge.

It was so much fun to find Pyrex in person again, and to spend an afternoon hunting through vintage and antique goodies. My fiance even found a few treasures, including a birthday gift for a friend and a new Flinstones mug for himself (yabba dabba doo I love drinking from you!).

I thought my gosh Icould have broke them just setting under all this stuff well now they are in the kitchen setting on some cook books safe and sound. I haven't had much luch on the Pyrex front lately, but tonight I was at the local Previously Loved looking for my halloween costume and I came across the large Balloon Promotional Cinderella Dip Bowl from the Chip and Dip Set. This is the first piece of promotional I have found, and my first decent Pyrex in months. The only downside? $19.99. There is no tax so it would be $19.99. It is in great condition, so I have to ask how much you would pay for a balloon?

i found this 043 on etsy and picked it up in denver this past weekend. of course, the photo misrepresents the true colour which is kind of a dusty green with the gold design. anyone know what pattern this is? i'm guessing its a promo piece

Mom and Pops bought me this beautiful bowl in Brighton, Ontario and loaded it with local apples. It doesn't take much to make me happy. This is almost all I need:)

I didn't think it could get better than the aqua and orange combo but adding the school bus/daisy/citrus yellow really does it for me. I love it!

I've slowed down on collecting, I actually have the will to say no to pieces now. I'd like to cobble together a set of bowls with the two 403's I have (orange and yellow) and I don't think I can ever say no to a fridgie...oh and if I found large orange utility pan I certainly won't turn it down.

Hello fellow Pyrex-maniacs! I recently came across two new-to-me pyrex finds to add to my growing collection. The Woodland 2.5l casserole dish I brought a few weekends ago at the local markets here in Cairns, which I paid a little too much for, but I really needed a casserole dish this size. The little green Gooseberry dish I scored yesterday at the op-shop for $1. It will come in handy and is the same size as my lime green Spring Blossom. Both were found with no lids, but they are easy enough to come by.

I have two pieces up for trade,

this #444 Gooseberry, outside is in superb condition, but there are utensil marks on the inside. Pics available.

Also, this promotional Meadow casserole with lid. Casserole itself is in absolute amazing condition. The lid has a small issue, about 2-3 cm on the inside of the lid a small crack? or something. It's no biggie & isn't too noticeable.

Local trades only - Toronto. I can only travel on the subway line. I will be coming to Montreal & Windsor within the next two weeks.

My interests: butterprint, gooseberry, pink, aqua, fridgies, dots.
Very good to excellent condition only.

Mom & Dad's Pyrex Find for Little Old Me

You may recall my post from last month that included an email from my mother telling me about a pristine Pyrex chip and dip set she found for next to nothing at a church rummage sale in St. Catharines, ON. It may have been Thorold. Anyway, here it is!

Loves me some Balloons! Thank you Mom and Pops. You're the best. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to my Canuck Pyrex pals.

Mod kitchen - is in my kitchen!!! I don't care that it doesn't have the lid or the cradle - I love it and I love the price even better - $2.99 at Value Village - I couldn't get to it fast enough - it was a little dirty but it cleaned up really nice.

What's even more amazing about it is the date on the tag - 09/19 - it must have been waiting for me because that's two weeks ago - why, why, did nobody snatch that up before I spotted it yesterday.

This 441 Butterprint Cinderella didn't even make it onto the shelf - I grabbed it from the cart - $1.99

At another stop I found this great 2 litre juice carafe - I have the smaller size but this will be so much better as it will actually hold a whole container of juice! Price - $1.

A friend went to an auction and i bought a set of bowls and came home to watch her 2 babies .
So after the auction she came in and she was showing me all her goodies and said I got this for you OMg as they say I was so excited just to get something pyrex and it was nice my special friend was thinking of me.

I have homemade chocolate chip cookies in it right now and going to use it for a refrigerator dish, I'm going back to glass dishes for the fridge

A Wonderful Pyrex Sale

It was a really chilly, rainy day yesterday and I almost didn't go shopping. I stopped at one family-run estate sale, though, and I'm so happy I did!

I got the mother-lode of pyrex refrigerator dishes. The only downside is that they were all FILTHY! All of them had dried baked food crusts and a film of brown scum -- the kind that some old people have in their houses when they just don't clean well...for years. I wasn't sure if the it was dirt on them or if the finish was gone, but decided to take my chances.

I got these great fridgies and a percolator (with no inside parts)...

I've never seen this pattern before. It's a fired on white finish with gold painted pinecones. The pinecones are on the lid, too. Can you tell me the pattern name?

After I snapped some pictures, I got to work scrubbing. It took 3 sinks of dishwater to get the grime off. Did you know that a Pyrex percolator comes apart? I didn't, but I do now!

FINALLY everything was clean!

All in all, I'd say I had found a prince of a Pyrex sale!

I had posted before about how owning a pie plate forced me to learn how to start making pies. Now I present to you, My second pie ever :

It's an adaptation of Martha Stewart's Banana Cream Pie. I just made the chocolate version. I also found it to be pretty sloppy on it's own so I froze it and made it sort of an ice cream pie.

It was amazing.
