While we're talking about Orange...

I picked up this gem earlier in the week! It's the first piece of Friendship that I've seen in person.

There's more to the story though...


...my 11yo daughter has caught my Pyrexia and asks me all the time, "did you find any Friendship???" So when I spotted this bowl (#443) I had to buy it, even though at $10 it was pushing the budget limit. Her favourite colour is orange. She was so excited! I told her that when she grows up and has a house of her own she can take every Friendship piece with her. Even though she swears she's going to live with me forever.

The whole set was there actually, but the other pattern and the 2 solids were in rough shape and not worth the $36 total. I only regret leaving them behind a tiny bit!

Orange Smorange

As I've mentioned before, I'm focusing on collecting orange and aqua pieces. I found this little cutie (1 1/2pt) for $6, sadly no lid. 

It's part of the friendship series right? It's the perfect size for dip!

Antique Store Prices!

I was peering into the window of a closed antique shop on my way home from work today and spotted some amazing Pyrex pieces. Unfortunately, one of the price tags I saw was amazing too!

This turquoise or aqua 2-quart round casserole came with a lid and rack that I had never seen before. I am not sure if they are original to the piece, as I thought these pieces typically came with a clear lid. Can you believe the $59 price tag? Ouch. It was a beautiful colour though, and in great condition too.

The store also had a beautiful promotional Royal Divided Dish with matching gold medallion lid in perfect condition. I wasn't able to see the sales tag but I'm sure it was out my price range. The royal blue colour on this pan is gorgeous! I think someone posted the other day that they had found the dish without lid. I think it would go nicely with the Horizon Blue pattern indeed.

Sorry for the quality of the photos, the daylight was burning away, and I was on the other side of the window... I assure you, they looked quite perfect in person. =)  I think I will visit this store again and check out the more humble Pyrex pieces outside of the window display. Who knows, there may be some reasonably priced gems back there.

Pyrex Flameware

I love, love, love my various vintage, colored pyrex pieces - but the one thing that I literally use every day to fill my Chemex coffemaker (another favorite) is my flameware teapot.  I love the idea of not having to use a metal container to heat my water.  I came across it a few years ago for a very nice price at a local goodwill and have been on the lookout for a "spare" ever since.  Lo and behold, I finally found another yesterday (at goodwill again) for the low, low price of $2.99!  I'm having some twinges of guilt for not gifting it to one of my friends or family, but I figured that keeping it around as a backup will help ease the anxiety my husband must feel when I'm standing over him as he washes it to ensure that he doesn't drop it, crack it, scrape it, or bump it....(poor guy).  I guess I can rationalize the excess as 'marriage therapy'.

On another note, I often see posts from people who have found original vintage pyrex boxes with the inner contents in pristine condition.  Yet, in all my forays to the thrift stores, I've NEVER found anything similar.  I can't imagine that Corning/Pyrex managed to sell every piece that they produced back in the day...so where, oh where, could the secret warehouse stash of brand new vintage pyrex be?

Let's play "name that pattern!"

I can't find reference to this pattern anywhere.Can any of you pyrexomaniacs give it a name? I'm referring to the casserole in the middle. The pattern is gold, and I'm not sure of the exact color of the casserole, as it was sort of grimy. Could be yellow, could be chartreuse, could be a pale harvest gold (but not as gold as Butterfly Gold, if you know what I mean.)

The 2 casseroles on either side are English Pyrex. The smaller one inside had no identification.

Lid question

This lid was in a batch of free lids that I obtained when I bought some of my finds at the flea market this past weekend. Does anyone know what Pyrex casserole it goes with? I haven't cleaned it up yet, so please ignore the grime if you can. :)

In retrospect, I guess I should have written down the numbers on it, but I didn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
