Pyrex Book Project!

Hi, Pyrex collectors! 

I've been thinking a long time about writing a book about Pyrex — I'm the author of two craft business guides and I recently became a full-time freelance writer and editor, which has given me a lot more time to work on passion projects like this one. I've got an agent interested in the project, but I'm still in the early stages of putting together a proposal.

The book is envisioned as a beautiful, photography-heavy project, with history, patterns, stories of collectors and pictures of Pyrex in action. I'm hoping to photograph the best and biggest collections in North America! If you'd like to possibly take part, please take this short survey! There's no obligation — this is kind of a fact-finding mission at this point. :)

Staging With Pyrex & Latest Haul

Hello there and Looooog time, no post. If Joan Rivers were here, she'd be making off-colour comparisons between my Pyrex dry spell and bodily functions. Yes, it's been a while. We've also been busy frantically getting our house ready for sale. We've found our dream house in a little country town and will soon be former Torontonians. As luck would have it, our agent collects Pyrex too and suggested we fill my grandmother's old bookcase with Pyrex as part of the staging. When I have photos, I will post. 

 Recently, I spied this beautiful bowl at the Value Village where I teach. It cost $6.99. 

 These Termocrisa (Mexican Pyrex?) dishes cost $1.49 each. I already had three of the green ones, so now I've got something that feels like an even number set. 

 At the amazing Southwarks Antique Market in Cambridge, Ontario I bought a bunch of Pyrex including the Shenandoan pattern. The came from two different vendors, hence the fact that the large one cost  $10.00 and the small one cost $10.50

 This Friendship casserole dish cost $13.50.

 This sunny Daisy casserole dish cos $12.00.

 The Horizon Blue casserole dish was $22.00 - my biggest purchase. 

Last but not least, I finally found the Ponderosa mug I've been searching for. It cost me nine clams, but for all the memories of going to the Ponderosa steakhouse with my family as a child, it was worth every penny.

Vintage Measuring Cups!

I have added a few more vintage measuring cups to the SixBalloons collection!

I was able to purchase the one cup and four cup measures for $2 a piece. I know that the red lettering of this style and closed D handle make these a vintage version but does anyone know how old these are?

Finally!

I finally got a 473 in that special green color! It took a while but I finally found one that wasn't ridiculously priced.  I didn't need the 'Crazy Quilt' lid, I prefer a clear lid. I'm probably in the minority here but I don't care much for the patterned pieces. The 2qt Utility I already had.

Currently my collection looks like this and as of right now I don't have any new pieces on my wish list. Shocking I know! I could use another aqua 8x8" pan and another loaf pan for baking for my shop; Motherfudger.

So what's the story on these green pieces? They're not Verde Green, Spring Blossom Green or Lime Green (which I actually think Pastel Green would be a better name for those and THIS green be called Lime Green) and they're not Primary Green. Were these promotional? Anyone know?

Help Me Identify This JAJ Casserole

I haven't posted on the Collective in ages, I figure that if you have a Pyrex question, this is the best place to come - I found this great JAJ piece today, I've looked on the internet and found one picture of the same casserole, but the pattern wasn't identified there either.  Anybody know what it's called??

It's JAJ, made in England, 524 is the number on the bottom  -  I was really surprised to see it was Pyrex!   Too bad Halloween is just over....  I paid $3

Pyrex Finds!

Breathing some life back into the original collective... 

Here are some of my weekend Pyrex finds! If you're a reader of my blog, Sir Thrift-A-Lot, you've already seen them, but if not, here they are!

Pink Daisy Divided Dish.
I overpaid for this, but wanted to spoil myself with a piece of Pyrex since I got vacation pay from my part time job (hey - anybody in the Toronto area hiring..? haha) & this was the most delicious piece in any of the antique markets that we went into, although I did see ramekins for the first time, but didn't want to pay the high price for them. It wasn't reasonable.
