Starbursts & Polka Dots!

I picked up two nice Pyrex pieces recently.  I was happy to find this green polka dots mixing bowl to help finish a set -- now all I need is the yellow one!
I also go this starburst casserole & I just love it!
When I went online, though, to try to find out about the pattern & history, I saw one just like it that ended up selling on Ebay for $120!  Can any of you tell me about it -- when it was made, if it was a promotional, what the pattern name is, etc?  Do any of you know why it would sell for so much?  I'm assuming it was bidder's frenzy and that two people just REALLY wanted it a lot!  Regardless of how much it's worth, it's not leaving my collection any time soon!

    The starburst is a promotional from 1960 and is one of the most sought-after pieces of Pyrex there is. It does come with a cradle ( like all promotionals ). Amazing finds!

    The Starburst is fabulous! That really is a great find! It's a promotional from the 60's that they didn't make very many of. I would probably wet my pants if I found that in the thrifts!

      Found one today at Goodwill!!! Doesn't have the stand though. $5.99

    Actually one of the starbursts just sold on ebay for closer to $160. You've got two 'holy grail' pieces there for a lot of collectors. I was lucky to buy my starburst years ago in a thrift store for $3. I didn't even collect Pyrex at the time but knew it was something special- now it is the star of my collection: http://pyrexcollective3.blogspot.com/2013/01/pink-and-turquoise-how-did-that-happen.html

    There is also a navy blue version which I would give a limb for.

    You really, truly do have two of the holy grail pieces right there. The aqua starburst has been going so high lately, with lots of bids. Awesome, awesome finds! Congrats!

    After reading the above comments, I will be looking at Pyrex in a who;e different light. I did find a little casserole or souffle - white with a brown pattern last week and thought of your blog so I bought it for a quarter!
