When I first found out that collecting Pyrex was a thing that people shared on flickr, and here of course, I loved to seek out pictures of stacks of Pyrex when I had some free time. My favourites were always the space savers, oval casseroles, and fridgies. I hoped that one day I'd be able to make some fun stacks too, once my collection grew a bit. I added two new spacesavers this past week, starburst and black rooster, and thought it would be fun to make a stack of my own.

I hope she doesn't mind, but Jeni from in color order has some of the best Pyrex stack photos around. I just love looking at her collection.
If you'd like to, link to your Pyrex stacks in the comments. I'd love to see them, short or tall!
I have read that it's not ideal to stack them, though I do it too, and I wonder if they will get scratched? It seems to be a good way to store them and I am definitely running out of space.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, I only stack this high for photos. When I stack them for storing I always put an upside down lid between each one. I've never heard that about stacking, but I imagine they could get scratched. Thanks for your comments!
DeleteWell, stacking them for photos is wonderful! Lovely quilt too.
ReplyDeleteI do beleive my eyes popped out of my head at the sight of the display picture! What a wonderful collection!
ReplyDeleteI try not to stack, but it's so hard not to. Here are some of mine. Definitely not as many as Jeni has.

ReplyDeleteSWOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteok , i love these and would love to start collecting them . but i have a small problem .... where on earth can i find them? is this a vintage thing or what?
ReplyDeleteThrift stores, garage sales, estate sales. The pieces are vintage. You'd be surprised how quickly your collection can grow.
Deletehmm ok , thank you . How do i know it is a true vintage ??? would it have a date on it ? and are they really costly ?
DeletePyrex is almost always marked on the back with the Pyrex stamp. The stamps are not dated but the design did change over the years. Pyrex does not produce these kinds of coloured pieces any longer. Costs at thrift stores, etc vary by region - I have not paid more than $10 for a single piece, usually much less. Pieces are available at antique malls and Ebay but you will pay much much more there - plus 90% of the fun of collecting is the thrill of the hunt.
DeleteYou should start by becoming more familiar with the patterns and shapes that are available. Here are some websites to get you started. There are also a couple of good reference books available. You should know, though, that once you start collecting, it becomes an obsession, referred by addicts as Pyrexia! Have fun!

DeleteThanks for all the lovely comments!
ReplyDeleteOh, my, look at all these colors! The patterns are so pretty! I have had a little desire to keep looking for these and collect and didn't really realize the interest in them! I have a few pieces myself. Love looking at the second hand stores!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Susie
What an amazing collection. That is something I have never collected, but I thing I should start. Beautiful! Hugs, Martha
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by my blog! Your blog is adorable! I love your pyrex collection! You have patterns that I've never seen before. I love how you stacked them. I guess I will now be on the hunt for something new! hee hee!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sharon
I'm a newbie with Pyrexia (loved this term!) and came by it accidentally through inheriting my grandfather's house, which contained my my grandmother's collectables, even though she passed in 1995. A totally new found joy, while it also brings me back and reconnects me with memories if my grandmother. Her pieces, I would never sell, but the treasure hunt of finding new items, learning about patterns and styles, it's all so fun. I still haven't figured out what my faves are and what I want to collect for myself, but in the meantime I am enjoying the pursuit, will sell some in the Spring/Summer at markets, and learn lots along the way. Thanks for the great, informative and super cool blog! :)
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? I had no idea that Pyrex could be so cute. (I have been off the band wagon for WAY too long apparently). So, do you purchase these works of art already done up, or do you decorate them yourselves? They are so amazing, and definitely bring a whole new ball game to cooking.
ReplyDeleteHi, I realise this is from 2012 but I just saw this gorgeous post. I was wondering if you could share what size these space savers are (dimensions or volume)? Thanks!
