Wanted!

I'm trying to complete a few sets and I'm having a hard time finding a few of pieces. Would any one have any of the bowls listed below that they would be interested in trading? I've got doubles of lots of stuff...043 charcoal snowflake, 043 orange, 043 pink daisy, 402 blue butterprint, 473 yellow daisy with lid, 443 woodland...just to name a few.

I'm looking for 1) blue horizon 402
2) shanandoah 401, 404 and 444

thanks!!

Pie!

I had posted before about how owning a pie plate forced me to learn how to start making pies. Now I present to you, My second pie ever :

It's an adaptation of Martha Stewart's Banana Cream Pie. I just made the chocolate version. I also found it to be pretty sloppy on it's own so I froze it and made it sort of an ice cream pie.

It was amazing.

Vacation Pyrex

What's the chance of finding one piece of Charcoal Snowflake, let alone two.  I'm so glad I didn't leave this 2 1/2 qt casserole behind, I don't have anything that size and I just love it!!  I paid $18 but I think it was well worth it for such a great piece in such good condition.  I bought the divided dish at another shop - for only $4....

Look what my mother in law found in her cupboards - the square bowl is a 015 and made in Canada - I've never seen it around the house before, I was quite surprised.  Then she went upstairs and came down with this Pyrex baby bottle - in perfect condition - I wonder if she fed my husband with that bottle......  I've never seen one......

On the way home we stopped at a flea market, only one table had any Pyrex, now that I think about it I probably should have purchased another piece or two but at least I bought something - this great orange fridgie -the picture doesn't really do it justice, the color is just so bright.

I also blogged about more Pyrex treasures and some other things over at my blog - the 70 mile yard sale was one big yard sale and I got some great deals!

Toronto Swap Meet

I hope this is alright to post here. I know there are at least a few people who live in or near Toronto who belong to this collective. A fellow Pyrex collector is organizing a swap meet in Toronto on October 13th. We have about 6 people confirmed so far, but would love to have more. Even if you're a new collector and don't have much to trade, you're still welcome to come. If you're interested, leave a comment with your e-mail, and I'll pass it along so you can get all the updates :)

I met up with another Toronto Pyrex collector last week, and she brought me the larger of the white Turquoise Gooseberry bowls! I could not believe it. What a sweetie!

A Happy Mail Day!

After around four years of searching, the elusive Blowing Leaves has joined my little Pyrex family. I know I said I was downsizing, but there's always room for those special pieces..right? I hadn't even seen a Blowing Leaves on online auction sites, but a flickr friend gave me some searching tips and a recommended search of 'mint Pyrex' popped up during one of my rounds. I decided to click, just for the heck of it. A few pieces down there was what looked like a regular turquoise 024. I clicked anyway, and found this beauty for less than $10! I couldn't believe it. It's not in perfect shape, but I don't care at all. I was so excited to get it in the mail today.

I also got this Friendship round casserole lid. I've been really loving the opaque lids lately, especially Friendship and Daisy. I was never crazy about them before, but I guess my Pyrex tastes are changing. Not Pyrex, but the sweet little owl fabric came today too. Definitely a happy mail day for me.

Butterprint Love

Butterprint is probably one of the most popular Pyrex patterns, but for good reason. I love it too, and am so happy to finally own a piece in three different colourways!

The white and turquoise was one of the first pieces of Pyrex I added to my collection, the pink and white I got a few months back, and the orange arrived in the mail a few days ago. I love the way the three look together.

I've also been toning down my collection quite a bit. I had pulled out this tableful of Pyrex to post on my local Craigslist. I'm thinking I will stick to collecting only my very favourite pieces and those that have special meaning. It's easy to get out of control with Pyrex, which I'm sure many of you are familiar with!

Pink Pyrex Loaf Pan Full o Tomatoes!

Hello Pyrex Collective, SixBalloons here! I hope everyone had a great summer thrifting, barbecuing, and gardening... That's what I've been busy with.

I found a great loaf pan at my church thrift for $1.50!

I really like the size of this. It can use a bit of cleaning, me thinks, but I see some banana bread in my future.

Please stop by sometime and say hello at sixballoons.blogspot.com!

a couple of new pieces...

hi everyone, i'm sharing a couple of new pieces on my blog today. here is one of them, my first piece of friendship.

and a couple of pyrex-related post i've written in the past, if you'd like to see some more pyrex. the last link has lots of photos...

Latest Finds

Hello,

Steph here from mycraftydays.blogspot.com popping in to share my latest finds. My pal Char and I went to an antiques and collectibles sale and I was pleased to find some Pyrex..among other things ;).

I've been on the look out for the green and blue bowls in the primary set for ages and finally found them with a big yellow this this weekend for $15. This completes a (very worn) set and leaves me with a spare yellow.

These have definitely seen some love in their day and will continue to be loved in my collection!

Here they are displayed with two sets of the primary fridgies...sigh.

I also found these two refrigerator dishes for $25 and they are MINT. I passed on a set of Butterprint bowls in poor condition but I can never pass up fridgies!

So nice to add a few new pieces to the collection.

Thanks for peeking!

Christie Antiques Show

Well. I was so excited to be heading out to the Christie Antiques Show, toted as one of the best in Canada. It's a reasonably short drive from where I am, today was a nice day, so it seemed like the thing to do. First thing, they charge you $10 for admission. Per person. There were 3 of us so $30 to get in. Not impressed. Then the prices. Over, over, over inflated. Anybody who's a thrift store shopper would have not been impressed at all. There was a lot of Pyrex and a lot of people hovering around it. This woman was buying a fridgie and I asked her how much she was paying. I was shocked to hear $15. She said she had seen them more expensive. A whole set of primary colour mixing bowl? $135 and not that pristine. A set of fridgies for $65. A small, scratched up old Orchard mixing bowl for $10. (I usually leave those behind, even in perfect condition!)

And Jadeite? (I know it's not Pyrex, but I still love it.) $425 for the set of mixing bowls. $425. Four-hundred and twenty-five. People were walking, looking and bursting out laughing. I guess they're catering to the big city yuppies who have more cash than brains.

I don't get why it is so expensive. With so many dealers (over 300), you think the competition would bring prices down. But everything was expensive. I think I'll keep going to thrift stores.

Well, in the meanwhile, here are a couple of pics of some of my lovely thrifted Pyrex, $4.99 and 5.99$ respectively:

Bowled Over

By my new vintage butterprint bowl!

Vintage Butterprint 444 Cinderella Bowl!
I found this one while out thrifting.  It was sitting on the shelf all lonely, it must have been waiting for me :)
It's been paired up with my 442 bowl.
It was so nice to finally come across more of my favorite pattern.  Butterprint has been pretty elusive lately.  Now I just need the two white cinderella bowls to complete my set!

Happy Friday thrifting!

8x8

As I said before, I've been sprinkling some of the Daisy/Citrus yellow into my orange and aqua collection. I think those three colors look amazing together and the school bus yellow is much easier to come by than the aqua.

I picked up this 8x8 baker on eBay and I love the flared lip. Thanks to this picture on flickr I'm guessing that it's the Daisy Baking dish.

Can anyone tell me if I'm right? Is this the only line that has this flared lip? Did it ever have a lid?

Questions, questions.

Still Collecting!

Jeni from In Color Order checking in! :) Last month I made a big move from Ohio to Wisconsin and I will admit, I had to let go of a big chunk of my Pyrex collection. I had been collecting pieces that I really didn't like that well but had found for a good price. I had a lot of unfinished sets, duplicates and damaged pieces. It felt really good to unload some of it, especially since it went to a new collector! Even though I let a lot go, I've still been picking up a few pieces here and there. I am happy to say I recently completed two sets I really love, one of them today!

New Dots by jenib320

Finally finished my New Dots set! I have had the middle two bowls for a while, but when I was recently gifted the green bowl (thanks to a flickr friend!!), I had to finish it up! Found someone selling two orange bowls in the same listing, and jumped! It just so happened to be cheaper than buying any single bowl AND, my friend needs the orange one too!

Pyrex by jenib320

Was happy to find this partial Verde bowl set at the thrift on labor day for $5! I was in need of a bowl set to actually use as everyday bowls. The goofy thing is, I had the 404, but got rid of it before I moved! Oh well!

Friendship by jenib320

One of my very favorite sets that I completed right before the move! I thought I'd never find that 502! :)

My favorite color of Pyrex is by far turquoise, so I was freaking out when a flickr friend surprised me with this piece! Love it so much!

Happy Pyrexing! :)

Spring Blossom Green!

Spring Blossom Green is the pattern I seem to find the most of. I love it too.

#473, $4.04
#475, $6.06

Wonder if they have the #474 at some point & priced it $5.05?

I have something exciting going on on my blog - my first party. It's called WTF? Tuesdays.
It's all the horrors, the messes, the crap you wonder why someone bought in the first place & wonder why you just bought it again. The things nightmares are made of.

Please check it out & please participate! I love seeing crap like this!

THRIFT ON...

I Found Pyrex Heaven....

It's in Woolwich, Maine - at the Montsweag Flea Market!  So, I was coming home from a weekend away on the coast of Maine when we happened upon this giant flea market.  Made a quick stop to check it out.  I wasn't seeing much and the Pyrex that I did see was nothing that I wanted to buy.  Until, I turned my head and saw this............

Aren't those circle shelves amazing?!?!  And the Gooseberry glassware!!!  Oh, wait, there's more!  Check out this stand that is run by Norma of Recycling Retro - I have never seen so much Pyrex in one place - and it's all in amazing condition!  Seriously, the pieces here looked brand new - and there are so many pieces I had never imagined seeing!

Of course, I couldn't settle on one piece, but I will definitely be making a return trip to Maine before the flea market closes for the season!!!

Look What I Got!!

My parent's are selling their house and they were looking to downsize - of course I volunteered to take some items off of their hands!  And, now I am the proud owner of a beautiful antique dining room table and hutch!

I have had my eye on this hutch forever!  It's just right for displaying lots of my beloved Pyrex pieces :)  The set is perfect for my dining room - and my mom sent along some tablecloths, including this vintage Vera piece...

This set originally belonged to my great-aunt Doris and I am so happy to have it in my home now :)  It goes perfectly with the vintage style I love and of course I am excited to be able to display my pretty Pyrex!!!

when hobbies collide

although i have been receiving a few pyrex trades in the mail, my most recent package was slightly smaller than your typical vintage bakeware.
inside was a magical piece to add to my other collection....

FABRIC!!!

that's right ladies and gentlemen, IIIII have combine two of my favorite things: Pyrex and sewing. I discovered the amazing website Spoonflower and designed fabric to match my favorite pyrex pattern. I took close up pictures, edited them in Picnik and behold my creation:

now that this beauty is in my possession, i am almost too nervous to cut into it. i really can't decide if i want to make a pillow, or a wall hanging, or something for my kitchen table. i can't wait to buy more and maybe do an entire pyrex quilt (ooh i just got goosebumps!)

If you would like to own a piece of this fabric, i hear purchasing it is pretty easy. you can find my design here and order it. or if that doesn't work go to the spoonflower website and search the words pyrex, butterprint or turquoise. so far i think i am the ONLY pyrex inspired fabric on the site so it should be easy to find. and i will be completely honest with you, i will get a small amount put into my spoonflower account if you buy the fabric, so i would really appreciate it!

do you guys have any other pattern requests? i had a lot of fun with this so i would like to make others for your favorite pattern!
