Pyrex in Action: Yummy Brownies

Hello Pyrex Lovers, SixBalloons here! I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day! I have to share some photos with you of some yummy and easy brownies we like to make at home.

I like to use my workhorse Pyrex pieces - the yellow Fridgie and raised lettering measuring cup.  We don't normally have dessert or cake mixes in the house, but when we stumbled upon this one, we figured we had a winner.

The best part about the brownies is the nice crust that develops after baking. Yum!

Of course I have to serve these on Pyrex too, namely my beautiful Delphite side plate. Mmm, I love the corner piece. FYI this is not a sponsored post or anything, I just really enjoy these brownies and wanted to share my Pyrex in Action! Feel free to stop by at sixballoons.blogspot.com for a few more photos!

Blue Pyrex Mixing Bowl in Terrible Condition!

Hello Everyone, SixBalloons here! It seems like Christmas has really snuck up on me this year, but I still can't wait... especially for a full week off of work. =)  I have been cleaning the house of some of my junk I have been accumulating, for bringing to the thrift store.

I couldn't help picking up this 401 Primary Blue Mixing Bowl at the thrift for 50¢... But what terrible condition!

Hopefully someone else will love it! Feel free to visit my post on Things I Regret Buying at the Thrift Store - I'd love to hear about whether you Pyrex hounds out there share my problem on accumulating junk!

Another note - can you believe that Pyrex Collective I now has 400 followers?! That is one crazy milestone.

Red Pyrex Fridgie from Value Village!

Hi Everyone, it's SixBalloons here!

I took a photo of this little red Pyrex refrigerator dish quite some time ago but realize that I never got to share it!

I found it at a Value Village store for $2.99. I've seen little fridgies of this size at VV before, but in such varying conditions (and yet STILL the same price) that I was happy to scoop this little guy up. The red is faded in some areas, but it's mostly bright, shiny, and comes with a glass lid. It's even the older style glass lid with lines on either side of the clear glass.

I love this little size because it's perfect for storing small leftover portions. I also use it sometimes for holding garlic cloves on the countertop. =)

I hope all our neighbours down to the South have a wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend! Stop by sometime at sixballoons.blogspot.com!

Latest Finds

Hello,

Steph here from mycraftydays.blogspot.com popping in to share my latest finds. My pal Char and I went to an antiques and collectibles sale and I was pleased to find some Pyrex..among other things ;).

I've been on the look out for the green and blue bowls in the primary set for ages and finally found them with a big yellow this this weekend for $15. This completes a (very worn) set and leaves me with a spare yellow.

These have definitely seen some love in their day and will continue to be loved in my collection!

Here they are displayed with two sets of the primary fridgies...sigh.

I also found these two refrigerator dishes for $25 and they are MINT. I passed on a set of Butterprint bowls in poor condition but I can never pass up fridgies!

So nice to add a few new pieces to the collection.

Thanks for peeking!

Completed My first Set!

This past weekend I completed this set. The blue bowl was finally found!
I blogged all about it and have way more photos there. I actually think I took over 40 photos of just the bowls. No I did not put them all up on my blog nor was I going to plaster them here. But I totally thought about it. My excitement is that much. they are fabulous in every photo!
Finally, your home Mr. Blue!
Pink Daisy on the right is so faded. I don't care and neither will my meatloaf.
It was a wonderful Pyrex weekend indeed for me.

Green

While wondering around the city today, I found myself in the middle of the 420 "Toronto Hash Mob" pot protest/celebration while getting off the subway at Dundas Square here in Toronto. The scent of marijuana filled the air, people were everywhere. Not somewhere you'd normally find me, I made my way to Goodwill where I found a #403 Spring Blossom Green Mixing bowl (my first Spring Blossom Green) & to complete my primary set, I have added the primary green #403 to my collection. Some might consider my Pyrex a big festive considering the celebration.

Yours truly,

Sir Thrift-A-Lot

PS: I don't know about you, but there had been a Pyrex drought over here! I'm glad the drought is over.

Blue Fridgie!

Hello Pyrex Collective, it's SixBalloons here! It appears that a lot of us have had luck lately at places we previously dismissed as "No Pyrex Zones".

I made a great discovery at one such No Pyrex Zone where I found this beauty!

Is something in the air? Does Spring Cleaning result in people purging their shelves of unwanted Pyrex?

Come on over to my blog and read all about my Primary Blue Fridgie Find!

99¢ Pyrex!

99¢ Pyrex!

If only we were all so lucky all the time. Red is showing some previous loving, but nothing too harsh. I think Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser might do some magic on it. Found at Goodwill, 50% off day, regular $1.99. Found Blue at Value Village in Windsor, Ontario over the weekend priced at 99
¢. Can't pass up a fridgie right now, lid or not.

Now you're going to have to deal with my mediocre photo. I wish I had a fantastic camera like some of you who take great photos have! What do you use!? I also don't have many places to take photos unfortunately.

Yours truly,

Sir Thrift A Lot

Primary Mixing Bowls Re-United!

Hello Pyrex Collective, it's SixBalloons here!  I have a crazy story of how I came to put a full set of Primary Bowls together... I think it is a bizarre tale of serendipity. I'm just so glad to have been able to re-unite a full set!

I started with this:

And a mere two days later, found more beautiful Pyrex. This is the biggest Pyrex haul I have had in a while. I know it sounds a bit loopy but I feel so satisfied when I obtain all four bowls from a set...

If you're interested in some more photos and the strange story of discovery, come say hello at sixballoons.blogspot.com!

Hey everyone!

I’m new to the Pyrex Collective, I’ve been reading through the posts, and I’m so glad to have found people who share my pyrexia and love of Pyrex! My name is Terra and I’m in my second year of University. Hunting for Pyrex has to fit in around school and work and so I often end up at Thrift stores as they’ll just about to close, and unfortunately I find it hard to get to those stores only open till 5. Recently I haven’t been having the best luck finding it, but hopefully I score some new finds soon enough.

My love of Pyrex is a fairly new addiction. It started the week before Halloween 2010. Me and my mom were in Value Village looking for bits and pieces for our Halloween costumes and I always like to check all sections of VV so I headed up to house wares where I found this lovely set of bowls. Bright coloured, sturdy bowls $9.99 for the four of them. I picked them up and met up with my mom. She was not enthused about the bowls, she looked at them and said “You could go to Canadian Tire and pick up a set just like them new, for more or less the same price!”. Then she asked what brand they were and when I said they were Pyrex she said they were a good brand. Not that it mattered I was already sold on the beautiful colours alone!

I went home and researched Pyrex and the bowl numbers. I had scored the Primary Mixing Bowls. All but the blue are the older ones from the 40’s.

My next find was two Butterfly Gold 2 Casserole Dishes for $3.99 and $4.99, I snatched them up. The more I found out online all the pretty colours and patterns. The more addicted I became. I was so happy to find this blog.

My last find was a set of four clear bottomed green bowls, for $5.99, I’ve seen some sets of these but they seem to come in sets of red, green and blue together or blues in varying shades. These are all the same solid green, I was wondering if anyone new anymore about them? Thanks!

That’s my collection so far! I’m to be a part of such an amazing blog, and I hope everyone has a nice Pyrex-filled Valentine’s Day. Nice to meet you all!
~Terra

P.S. Where I live there is nothing anything like the antique malls some of you have posted about. They blow my mind! There is nothing like them in my entire province, I hope to rummage through one, one of these days!

Timing is everything.

"Why are we walking so fast?", my boyfriend inquires as we get off the subway & make our way to Goodwill. Like I tell him all the time, "because while you're thrifting, timing is crucial." This has never been more true than today. As I entered Goodwill, I followed my usual pattern, down the mug & plastics aisle, passing the shelving unit with the new items, then down the aisle with the bowls & photo albums & on from there. As I was passing the shelving unit with the new items I spotted the '#404' yellow bowl from the primary bowl set sitting lonely with a bunch of wires & crappy plastic toys. As I pass the side of the cart an old, wrinkly had reaches out & grabs it. I hold my breath. Look back & forth. Can tell the guy is thinking it over & he finally decides against it & puts it back down. As soon as I see that hand moving away from the bowl, I move in. You should have seen the look of disappointment on the guys face. It was priceless.

Now, I could have already owned my own set of primary bowls already. I was at Value Village one day & out from the backroom did appear buy 4 colourful bowls. The boyfriend was on my back & I wasn't into Pyrex at the time, so I left them behind. Regrets. So, this is the 1940's version as you can see from the base. And the price? $2.99! Fantastic condition!

I am Sir Thrift A Lot. This was my first post here on The Pyrex Collective. It was good for me, how was it for you?

Hope I can plug this here, CSN Stores is having a giveaway on my blog for a $40 gift code, they have some neat stuff that some of you might find interesting! You can check it out right here!

When do you walk away?

I posted this on my other blog but I wanted to ask you guys as well.

So here's a question; When you see something and it makes your heart race a little and when you pick it up to inspect your heart drops because the piece is so badly damaged/broken/worn that you can't salvage it, At what point do you have to walk away and how hard is it for you to do?

I saw the above Pyrex bowls at my Value Village and they were so worn and marked up. I assume someone put them in the dishwasher. It was so sad to see them like that. I see a lot of Pyrex like this.

For me it's hard to say no to a good find, I love a challenge and finding ways to rehab a piece but sometimes they're just unsalvageable. Sometimes I need my husband there to be the voice of reason.

Never a blue

I found another stacking set. Again, no blue. I get excited when I find this set. I have several of them. I grew up with this set. We made lots of goodies in these bowls. I am starting to think I may have to Ebay a blue bowl(s). These are in great shape. Minor scuffs and the red needs a good washing on the inside. Paid: 9.99 for them all which then led to a Pyrex dance while walking to the car.

401's

I took Monday off from work and my boyfriend and I went on a little road trip up to Maine. He knows of my love of Pyrex (he even got me this book for my birthday!) and so he knew we were stopping at some antique stores along the way :) Let me tell you, I hit the Pyrex motherlode! I haven't had time to photograph everything, but I did get to take a quick pic of these cute little 401's. Spring Blossom is my favorite, the blue primary is my 2nd piece of the set (I already have the yellow primary) and New Dots....well, need I say more? I really had to limit what I got, but luckily my boyfriend treated me to some pieces too :) I'll share more over the weekend - happy hunting!
