A Pyrex Pickle (to be)

Daisy 444

I've discovered that cinderella mixing bowls are perfect for soaking cukes on their way to becoming pickles.

Even better for holding rat's tail radish pods.

Early American 443

For those curious about the radish with an ugly name, but delicious taste, it's blogged here.

Happy weekend! - Chelsea

A Week of 444s

Daisy and Butterprint for $6.99 each and Pink Gooseberry for $5.99

I am swimming in cinderella mixing bowls.  It's gotten to the point where they're stacked two deep in the cupboards and are lining the basement shelves.  I can't even offload them onto my friends anymore (their Pyrex problem addiction clearly isn't as full blown as mine).  So I'm trying to be very picky now when I come across any while thrifting.  But seriously, how could I pass up butterprint and gooseberry?  I'll admit, I already have a daisy 444, but I love it so much that I figured it would become my trusty back-up (which is pretty much my rationale for everything, hence my overcrowded shelves).

Anyhow, the prices and condition were too good (and my addiction is too strong) - I couldn't leave them behind.

And so the cycle continues...<sigh>

Balloons Cinderella Bowl

Found this at an antique mall last weekend, and didn't even have to splurge much due to the holiday sale! Total score. If only I could find the missing pieces and restore this to its full chip-and-dip glory...

Decorating with Pyrex

Friday morning in the commuter train, while meditating....I thought about this....

This poor succulent was way too big for this little planter and was in jeopardy....

I needed to change its pot pronto!

                                                        But what could I use?

Believe it or not, I had a vision....

                                                                  Using this....

This little guy was hanging out unloved in my garden shed....I'm not a big fan of the brown Pyrex.

But I needed a planter and it was ready and willing!

                                                       Don't they look great together?

I could almost hear the plant giggling!

                                                                Have a great week!

Winter warmer

How about a stack of cheerful bowls and a hot cup of tea to warm you up on a chilly February day?

I found the carafe for $1 and the smallest yellow bowl for $3 this week. It might not be the right bowl for the set, since it doesn't match the other one exactly. But it works for me!

Promotional Aqua Blue Scrolls

OK Pyrex Collective, it's SixBalloons here with my first post of the year!

I'm really excited to report that I have found another great promotional piece... Blue Scrolls!

I have been quite good sticking to my "rule" of not buying any Pyrex online, instead scouring around at thrift stores, church basement sales, etc. to find pieces in the wild. I'm pretty happy with the little collection I've put together so far.

I've got more photos and info of this piece, including a shot with a couple of my favourite Pyrex pieces here at sixballoons.blogspot.com!

January Pyrex

I'm usually a bit down in early January because I have to put away Xmas....

All the tree's ornements waiting for their boxes....

How about planting a succulent in a Terra mug? It will spruce up your house for sure!

Yum! A darling Charcoal Pyrex holds picadillo leftovers....

Don't forget to make Pyrex part of your everyday life! ;)

a very pyrex christmas

My mother knows me all too well:

Three Cinderella bowls and six Fireking mugs. I'd actually never seen that pattern before (and it wasn't in the big book, which I also got for Christmas), but someone on PyrexLove identified it very quickly as Shenandoah. Thanks, internets!

A trip to post-industrial northern Ohio means awesome thrifting.

[heaven sounds]

I didn't actually find any Pyrex at that Salvation Army, but I did make some huge scores later that evening:

Everything in this random shop was 30% off, so I ended up getting these four casseroles and two lids for about 10 bucks. Not shabby at all!

Oh, and sidenote? Only in post-industrial Ohio will your Pyrex purchases be wrapped in 20-year-old newspaper. Gee, I wonder if the USSR will survive?

(this guy knows what i'm talking about)

With this Pyrex binge, I'm finding myself in the position where I'm running out of room for my finds. (There should be a version of Hoarders that's just for Pyrex addicts, don't you think?) So I'm going to start putting stuff up for trade or post things on Etsy or something. But how can you ever decide which pieces to part with? I guess I've got to prioritize and figure out which patterns or styles I want to focus on. How do you all do it?

Regency Restaurantware by Pyrex

Some of you are lucky enough to live by resaurants that still use Pyrex Restuarantware.  This is their Regency Pattern which I have heard is still used by a waffle house somewhere in the states.  I cannot imagine going to out to eat with cool Pyrex!

Room for 'Shrooms

It's great to see so much wonderful Pyrex here lately!  I feel like I'm a little behind, both in reading entries and posting about recent Pyrex-ploits, so this is a bit of a catch up.

Saw this set of casserole dishes with matching lids at a thrift store a couple weeks ago.  I was trying to not buy for a while because I am running short on room to put the ever-expanding collection, but I couldn't pass these up for $6 for the set.

I stopped over at my sister's house recently and was telling her about the above.  Her fiance motion me over to the kitchen cupboard where he had an entire matching set of bowls!  I had my camera along, so I snapped a pic.

He'd bought them at a rummage sale, I think he said, for a couple bucks total.

My sister has started off her Pyrex collection with these Butterprint bowls that she found at an antique shop while on vacation in northern Wisconsin recently.  She called me from the shop to see if she should buy them for me, and I said, "Sure."  Well, she had fallen in love with them by the time she returned home, so she decided to keep them.  Fine by me!  Look at all that room on her shelf.  I think she's got space for a whole lot more, don't you?

On Saturday, I found this baking dish at a Savers store.  It's the dirtiest thing I've ever bought, but it looked like under all that baked on greasy grime, there was a decent finish.

Here it is in the sink after a good soak and concerted effort with a Magic Eraser.  Not much happening to loosen the gunk.

Yesterday, I bought some Bar Keeper's Friend and gave that a go.  It took a lot of time, patience, elbow grease, and a bunch of toothpicks, but it finally came pretty clean.

Does anyone know anything about the name or approximate age of this piece?  I just love that vintage looking greenish-blue color.

Last, but not least, this small casserole was a dollar at the same thrift store the 'shroom set came from.  Haven't had time to research the name of the pattern.

Now I really must find more storage space!

Gooseberry

Still having no luck at all with thrifting Pyrex! However, I did receive a great swap package from a sweet friend with the 443 and 444 Gooseberry bowls I needed to complete my set!

When I first started collecting I didn't really like Gooseberry but once I saw the white on pink in real life, I couldn't resist! That pink is just so pretty!

So happy to have completed this set :)
