I found this weird piece of Pyrex at Goodwill this week. Have any of you ever seen anything like this? It has a design on the inside of it and looks gold from the top and blue from the bottom...see pics. Came with the stand for about $5. I didn't buy this one because I don't have enough space to store it (it's very large) and I didn't absolutely love it.

It looks like a lid to something. Really weird how they put it with the stand.
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a lid but it's huge, definitely looked meant to be a platter that could be warmed with the stand. I would say it was 1 foot x about 2 feet. I had never seen anything like it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a 1233 to me. I have a plain one and I've found examples of decorated ones with cradles online; they're often referred to as chafing dishes.

ReplyDeleteI had an entire casserole like this once - Pyrex - tried to sell it on Ebay and it didn't sell. That was a few years ago. Sent it back to the thrift store.
ReplyDeleteI have one with the cradle. It's designed by Culver Glass for Pyrex. It's a platter, has a 3 quart vol if I recall correctly. I've found some references that say the gold leafing is 22k. $5-$10 is a great thrifting price! I've seen them in antique stores for $50-$60. The blue on the underside is pretty cool.
