A Bit of a Birthday Thrift

Hi Pyrex friends!  I recently celebrated a rather momentous occasion: my thirtieth birthday.  When asked what I wanted to do in honor of that momentous occasion, I promptly declared: thrift!

So my handy dandy chauffeur (tee hee, boyfriend!) drove me on not only one day but two days to some of our favorite thrift and and antique stops here in the greater Seattle area.  And my goodness did we find some amazing Pyrex!
This isn't anywhere near all of what we found, oh no, so if you would like to see the rest of it in all it's glory, please hop on over to my blog!
Part One is here and Part Two is here.

Yes...I had to break it into two installments...!
Happy thrifting, friends!

Cleaning the Daisies!

Hi Pyrex friends!  I recently found this little gem of Pink Daisy goodness at a thrift and have embarked on a very lengthy journey of spiffing it back up to its original glory!

I have documented the various stages of cleanliness over on my blog, and while it now looks much better than it did when this photograph was taken, I still need some help...

Anyone who loves a good makeover story or has any cleaning suggestions might want to pop over and take a peek to see what I've done and what still needs doing-I'd really appreciate any tips and tricks!

Pink Pyrex & A Sneak Peek

Here is my newest addition to my vintage pyrex collection:

More Flamingo Pink!

A pretty flamingo pink round baking dish!  It didn't look this nice when I picked it up at the local VV - it was covered in yellow grease stains.  With a little ceramabryte & TLC it was transformed into this beauty.  It will have a permanent home in my studio with my matching pink casserole I found the other week.

And the sneak peek?  This cute little vintage sheet fat quarter bundle I am giving away as part of the Vintage Sheet Blog's one year celebration.  Visit Pink Fawn's Notebook tomorrow for all the details!

pleased to meet you

Hello there pymaniacs, I am honoured to take up my place as a new contributor and look forward to sharing my musings about the glassware I love with like minded folk.

I live in Oxfordshire, England where you can't venture very far without stumbling upon a well-stocked charity shop, brimming with goodies to be discovered. Since I was a teenager I've been picking up various little bits of mid century miscellany, but I'm fairly new to Pyrex, having picked up my very first baking dish last summer.

As you can see, my collection is very much in its infancy, but it is fair to say I have fallen well and truly head over heels in love with vintage Pyrex and there's no going back. I recently wrote about all the many reasons why adore it over on my own blog and I would love to hear all you reasons for loving it too.

My current favourite piece is this little gravy boat, which I bought recently for only
 £1 ($1.61) - score!

and my latest addition is this egg shell blue butter dish, also a steal at
£1.50 ($2.42)

I can be quite fussy about the pieces I buy- I disregard anything adorned with fruit or chintzy little flowers (I'm all for granny chic, but there's definitely a limit).

Thank you again for having me- I'm now off to read some more about your super finds and to envy those of you with anything pink!

Pink!

I found this stunner last weekend. Pink is not a color I collect so it will go into my etsy shop but it's really pretty. Can you guys educate me on the difference between Pink Gooseberry and Flamingo Pink?

It was meant for baking...

Well I read all the posts and I'm quite surprised of the number of lovely members who won't bake in Pyrex.

I understand your concerns but it was meant for baking. See?

Cornbread and hotdogs baked in a Hostess bowl.

BBQ Chicken baked in a Hostess bowl.

Cake baked in a 404

Autumn Blush baked in a round Utility dish....

And just yesterday Pecan Brownies baked in a Horizon square baking dish.
 Delicious and no breakage!

He's a keeper.
