Turquoise 401 on the Floor

This is the first time I've ever broken something in a thrift store - it's sure not a very nice feeling when it hits the floor and even worse when everybody starts staring at you.  And to make matters worse, it was a 401 turquoise bowl in mint condition, selling for 50 cents.   I felt so bad - I'm still thinking about that beautiful little bowl broken to bits!!!

  1. Oh you poor thing! You must have felt so terrible. But things must get broken in thrifts all the time. I was talking to a clerk in a Value Village one day and, as she spoke, she gestured with her hands, hitting the lid of a beautifully etched 30's/40's Pyrex clear casserole and sent it crashing to the floor where it smashed into a million pieces. Oops.

  2. What a shame! I've done it, it's the worst feeling. Especially if they make you psyfor it.

  4. I once broke a vintage Fiesta bowl in a highly collectible color -- the bag it was in slipped out of my hand, right onto the concrete step as I was coming into the house from antiquing. I had paid $35 for it. I was upset, yes, but there's no crying over spilt milk, as they say. I decided right then and there that if I can't afford to break it, I shouldn't be collecting it. I'm glad you were only out 50 cents on this one.
