Pyrex drought is over!
Shooting Fish in a Barrel
We only had a couple hours, but in our short time there, we did some major damage.
Here is a sampling of what was around practically EVERY corner:
And this:
I seriously was shrieking with joy!
I usually have to work so hard to find Pyrex back home!!!!
I will post again later this week to show you what I bought. In the meantime, come visit me at my blog: The 1972 Retro WW Experiment. I'd love to see you sometime...

Where Do These Cradles Belong?
Friday yard sales in my town just don't happen very often, but there were a few yesterday - maybe they were getting ahead of the rainy day today. Anyway, I found these cradles - I think they look nice with these pieces but I'm wondering what they really go with - they both say Corning Ware on the bottom, the smaller one has P-11-M-1 - the larger one has P-10-M-1. I wonder if I had been there early would there had been casseroles sitting on them? I paid 50 cents for the two.
I also bought this carafe at the same sale - prices were great there - 50 cents for this!
Have a great evening, everyone..

Road Trips and Pyrex
My inheritance.
These pieces are an 'inheritance' of sorts from my Grandmother. I decided to photograph them while I was out in the garden, on a rare NOT-rainy day!
The interest in gardening is definitely inherited from my Grandfather. Ask a kid I spent my summers with my grandparents, and Grampa always had a fantastic garden. My favorite things to grow are the things I grew up eating straight from his garden.
After an 8 year break, I have come back to veggie gardening! I am realizing how much I missed it. My little garden is finally starting to look like a real garden and not a box of dirt. It has been a cold, wet spring here (coldest in 50 years, I'm told) so we are off to a very slow start. You can read more about my inherited kitchenware and gardening on my blog.

Pyrex in Action - Blue Scroll and Crazy Daisy Mixing Bowls!
I love using my vintage Pyrex pieces in the kitchen. The other night I was prepping some roasted cauliflower, from a recipe courtesy of Everybody Likes Sandwiches.
My Pyrex Blue Scroll bowl is a workhorse in the kitchen since it's the perfect size. I mixed up the lemon juice and olive oil goodness and added the spices in the bowl for mixing. Of course when it came time for me to grab my bowl of veggies, out came my favourite Pyrex piece of all time, the 401 Spring Blossom mixing bowl gifted to me by Mr. SixBalloons.
I hope you're all putting your Pyrex pieces to work too! Stop by sometime and check out my recent thrift finds at sixballoons.blogspot.com - I picked up a perfect vintage Royal Quiet De Luxe Typewriter from the 1940s the other day...!

Town & Country Lass and her Distant Cousin
I made a quick thrift stop on the way home yesterday and was pleased to find the Town & Country 503 Fridgie. I don't need another 503, but....A) It's a pattern I don't have, B) I have a billion 503 lids looking for a fridgie, and C) She was only $2.99. How's that for justification?
While there I saw the CorningWare baker (complete with mid-century cradle) that I've considered getting in the past. While not as cool as pyrex, it did strike me as being quite functional, as I do a lot of baking (and a little entertaining), so I grabbed that one too. Why not!

My New Butterprint..
I immediately spotted the #401, priced right at $2.02. It was quite grimy, but cleaned up very well. Upon further digging, the #442 turned up for $3.03. In good, it has some utensil marks inside & out, you may be able to see them in the photo.
All in all, a good day!
Yours truly,
Sir Thrift-A-Lot
back from a hiatus with hearts
And that's just one booth in this football-field-size antique mall. Literally, everywhere you turn is Pyrex. (I'm usually loathe to name my thrifting spots, but there is more than enough to go around here.) The first time I went to OVAM, I was jumping around at all the pyrex on the first aisle. After three hours, my spirit was broken. "More Pyrex?" If y'all go out to Fairfield, Ohio, just be sure to pack some granola bars and water, for real.
The prices are often more for collectors than thrifters, but you do occasionally find some good deals. I got a little plate with a pink edge for $1, and a little round Butterprint casserole for $4. But my best score was this:
Golden Hearts promo casserole with warmer -- including what I think are the original candles! -- for $10. Beautiful! I'm glad to be back in the game. :)

Spring Green!
I've taken a little pyrex thrifting break - merely because my kitchen is at capacity and I've realized that I have absolutely no willpower when I find something...even if it's a piece I already have or don't need. However, I broke the fast yesterday and managed to come up all green! There was also a spring blossom round casserole, but that, and the smaller cinderella, have already found their way to my friend's house (see honey, I didn't keep ALL four pieces).
Green pyrex makes me happy - especially when I (finally) see the colors mirrored in my newly sprouting spring garden (can you tell Portland is finally having a sunny day - it does wonders for lifting the winter doldrums).
Happy weekend, I'm headed back to the garden!

Yard Sale Pyrex
Estate Sale Find
The items were wonderful and I passed on all the hundred dollar items and went to the garage and there set thes two beauties. Oh another thing I said I was going to quit buying so much pyrex. However this long baking dish looked like it had never been used and so does the casserole dish.
Had to buy them $8.00 each

Pyrex in my Carry On Luggage!
Aren't Friends Great?
She saw this #404 Colonial Mist bowl first and handed it off to me because she knows how much I like it. How sweet is that? Now I have both the 401 and the 404 and I'm half-way to a full bowl set!
Thanks again , girlfriend -- you're the best!
