Thanksgiving in March

Hi Everyone! I meant to post these pictures from my family's Thanksgiving a LOT sooner but life gets busy!

I had a vision of our Thanksgiving dinner being served all in Pyrex. The problem with this is that I don't cook the whole meal and it is not held at my house. My mom humored me and let me haul a bunch of my Pyrex dishes over for her to put her food in. :) I think our table turned out like a 70's ad for Pyrex, don't you? I love it!

The Carrots were in Autumn Harvest, the Stuffing in Butterprint,

Sweet Potato Casserole in Clear

Cranberry Salad was in my prized Blue Snowflake Utility Dish

The Mashed Potatoes were in my LARGE Orange Mixing Bowl

and Gravy was in a Woodland Gravy Boat

The Ham was in a large Yellow Fridgie and my aunt even brought her

Macaroni & Cheese in a Blue Casserole dish she got as a wedding gift

The Green Beans were in Butterprint and our Butter was even on a little

Golden Butterfly Correlle plate! The Cake was not on Pyrex but is on a cake stand I made from a vintage plate and candle holder I found at the thrift store.

Looking at these pictures has made me wish that we could have another Thanksgiving in March...I'm hungry! Hope you are all having a great 2012!!

My Worst Looking Purchase

This has to be the very worst piece of Pyrex I've ever purchased, but after scrubbing it for at least half an hour, it looks much better....

On another note, I was browsing on Etsy one day and found this perfect Snowflake oval baker, I don't make many online purchases, because the postage is just way too high for someone in Canada, but this was good - less than $20 including postage.  And, Charcoal Snowflake is my favorite - now I have four pieces - this is my first oval baker and I like it!!

Aqua Fridgies - Craigslisted!

Hi Pyrex Collective, it's SixBalloons here!

I think we probably all have our own personal "Wishlist" of Pyrex items - if you are anything like me, you'll occassionally haunt eBay and see if you can scoop a smoking deal on say, the New Dots set of bowls or something.

One set that I love looking for are the Aqua Fridgies, which regularly go for more than $100. I was browsing Craigslist recently and saw a local ad posting a set of the Aqua 501, 502 and 503 for... wait for it... Fifteen Dollars!!

Was it too good to be true? I phoned and emailed the seller right away, but didn't hear back for almost a week. During that time, the ad was deleted and I figured someone else lucked out.

It's Been Way Too Long!!!

I must sincerely apologize for my absence! I am still very much in LOVE with all things vintage Pyrex :) My current project is focused on compiling a personal inventory of each pattern I have in my collection and finishing any sets in those patterns, beginning with the one I have most of. Whew!!! Am I the only O.C.D. collector here?? It just makes it so much easier when I am out thrifting so I will not pass on a piece I need or purchase one I don't need. I also plan to utilize it when I am perusing eBay, Etsy, Bonanza, or shopgoodwill.com. Today I received a much-needed piece in the mail from Bonanza...a #471 (Cinderella casserole)  in Spring Blossom Green with a lid, of course! I have more Spring Blossom Green than any other so that pattern is my focus as of now. Butterfly Gold is close behind! Does anyone have an Excel spreadsheet they use for taking account of your collection??? If so, I'd love to see it! I have spent hours jotting all my info in a notebook. I have used a fabulous site, Corelle Corner, as a resource for dates, patterns, and such. Along with Pyrex Love, Corelle Corner is amazing for everything from pattern names, pieces by number, quantities, and even the name of the designer! Since I feel so awful for not having posted in ever so long...I will post a pic of my latest lovely:

Practical Fridgie Usage and SixBalloons News

Hello Pyrex Collective! It's SixBalloons here - I haven't stopped by in a few weeks as we've welcomed a new bundle of joy to our life and we are now new parents! (EEEK!)

I haven't been out thrifting lately, but I am still using my vintage goodies. Storing milk containers in the fridge is made a bit more tidy with my little Pyrex Delphite refrigerator dish.

Dish, that is!  I have never seen a butter dish in the wild- or I would have snapped it up in a hot second.  So I was very excited when my mom called and asked what I was using for a butter dish.  She had found one for me at her local thrift shop in northern California (where, I can assure you, it is mostly overpriced garbage).  She found this beauty for $1.00, and it was half off day- so yes, it was fifty cents!  Thanks so much, Mom!  It will go fabulously with the vintage glasses I just found. :) If you stop by to check them out, be sure to say hello- it's always nice to meet new Pyrexic friends!

Check out the Etsy Vintage Team's little write up on our favourite obsession. Next week is March Break in Canada. It is my goal to find one nice piece of Pyrex. I'm starting to get like Susan Sarandon in Bull Durham. "Can't a girl get a little Pyrex action!" Alright, I've cleaned up the script.

For Those Who Love Corning Ware

I love old advertisements - I bought a bunch of old magazines a while back at a thrift shop - no Pyrex ads in them but here's a few vintage Corning Ware ones.  The first two are from 1973 issues of Chatelaine, the Corelle Living China is from a True Value advertisement in a 1972 issue of Family Circle.

Two New-To-Me Patterns

Pyrex has been very hard to come by in my neck of the woods lately, but i got a bit excited when I saw these two Australian Agee Pyrex divided dishes today at the thrift shop.

(sorry - cant seem to turn the picture around!)

I didn't buy them -  I've already got a divided dish that I don't use!  But I did love the pattern of the first one.

Can This Be Real?

I picked up this bowl at my local thrift store last week.

  It has one paint loss spot and one scratch, but...it's speckled!

As soon as I saw the speckles, I knew it was something special.  At first I thought they were grease or what I think of as 'old lady dirt' -- greasy spots that get so baked on they almost never come off.  Then I realized it was all over the entire Flamingo Pink painted surface.

I've never seen speckled Pyrex, other than the tan country type from the 1970s.  Can this be real?  I'm wondering if it's one of the experimental or limited runs that I've read about in my Pyrex book.  No matter what, I'm pretty excited!

Can any of you tell me more about it?
