Rehoming Pyrex

I have some pyrex that is available for rehoming!

...first, we have a butterfly gold 472

next, there is a forest fancies 403 and a colonial mist 442
this is a butterfly gold 441 and below is a woodland 443 and a daisy casserole 473 with its lid which is faded on the painted side but still quite bright when flipped over

more butterfly gold...404 and 402, and then pink gooseberry 473 and garland snowflake 441
all are available either for trade, or just the cost of the shipping. of course, if you live the san francisco bay area, i could just meet up with you. all the pieces are in good condition and are available because they are doubles for me.

Pinch me quick! I must be dreaming!

I can't believe what I found at 2 garage sales this morning! I got all of  big bowls and the red fridgie at one sale and the rest from another. I am so excited, my heart hasn't slowed down since I walked into that first garage!

This is the most Pyrex I've ever gotten in one day before! I feel like I need someone to pinch me so that I know I 'm not dreaming!

Attention So Cal Pyrexics!

I'm having a yard sale tomorrow and you're all invited, lol!  I finally decided exactly which Pyrex I do and do not collect and these are the pieces I've decided to part with.  There's Butterprint, Butterfly Gold, Autumn Harvest, Charcoal Snowflake, Friendship, Forest Fancies, and much, much more.

There is tons of vintage clear Pyrex as well.  My prices won't be as low as someone selling who doesn't know what they have, but honestly I am just looking to get back what I paid for these pieces.

For those of you who don't live nearby, have you ever had a Pyrex yard sale? How did it go?

A Midweek Thrift

This week I found myself house and dog sitting, unable to work on my Fall knit and crochet projects for my Etsy shop (no dog dander allowed!), and itching for a bit of a thrift...so off I went!

I almost never go thrifting midweek and I now remember why: while one might think thrifty gems of the Pyrex sort might be more plentiful on say, a Wednesday, 'tis not true in these PNW parts!  I have so much better luck on a busy Saturday than I ever do midweek.

Which is why the only thing I found was a forlorn little Pyrex mug just waiting to be rescued from its dusty shelf.

I suppose something is better than nothing, yes?

The Victory Garden: Yarn and Curiosities

PEI Pyrex

I just spent 6 weeks in Prince Edward Island - my mother took ill so I had to head back to my home province from Ontario.  Six weeks is a long time to browse around for Pyrex - and when you have to buy an extra carry on bag to get it all back - you know it's not a good situation!  That bag was heavy!!  I also had Pyrex in my suitcase and Pyrex in another carry on - I only left two Spice of Life canisters behind - they'll be waiting for me next time.

My favorite purchase was this lime green baking dish - I have the pie plate and square pan - now to find the loaf pan and maybe a cake dish...

Pyrex Wedding Shower

My sweet fiance's family threw us a wedding shower over the weekend and guess what i got....

(that's my excited face! haha)

His aunt, who I have traded with in the past, bought be a set of three colonial mist casseroles

AND a pot holder!!

(which by the way, I entered to win forever ago and it STILL hasn't come! anyone else had that problem?)

It was the best shower gift for a pyrex lover like myself!

First PYREX COLLECTIVE dream?

Well, yesterday I awoke with a funny dream.

I had a dream that Brad Pitt was a collector of Pyrex & he was posting his finds on the Pyrex Collective, he also lived here in Toronto, so I sent him a message. To my surprise, he replied & we made a `date` to go thrifting together & all I could say to him was, ``what if Angelina finds out?`

So silly, eh? I can`t even remember the last time I spoke or heard about Brat Pitt.

I did however have such a great day with Pyrex!

This is what happens when you never pass up a mini fridgie while thrifting.  There could be worse things, I suppose.  Until I started pulling stuff out of the cupboards I had no idea!  Oops.

First Ebay Pyrex purchase

When I first started collecting Pyrex about 2 years ago, I saw a set of two Pyrex Cherry bowls on Etsy, and was instantly drawn to them. But, as usual, I hemmed and hawed too long before deciding to purchase them, and someone else bought them. Ever since then, I've been looking for those bowls, and I finally found a set of three on Ebay a few weeks ago. This time I did not hem and haw, and worry about the price....I ordered them!! Now, I know these bowls aren't as vintage and old as most of the Pyrex we collect, but they somehow speak to me. Perhaps, it's because of my love of red, and anything with cherries on it. What I do know is that they make me smile when I look at them, and in my book, that's what counts!

Pyrex Karma

I know it's been a while since I posted, but it's not because I haven't found any Pyrex. Pyrex karma has been really good for me the last several weeks, but I don't want to talk about it too much, or I might jinx the good vibes! LOL...

Several weeks ago my son, whom I've now officially nicknamed my "Pyrex Proxy" texted me several pictures of some Horizon Blue pieces to see if I had them. Well, I only had one of the pieces he was looking at but none of the others, so he went ahead and got them all for me!!

Aren't they pretty? I think am so lucky to have a "Pyrex Proxy" who looks out for me!!

A Week of 444s

Daisy and Butterprint for $6.99 each and Pink Gooseberry for $5.99

I am swimming in cinderella mixing bowls.  It's gotten to the point where they're stacked two deep in the cupboards and are lining the basement shelves.  I can't even offload them onto my friends anymore (their Pyrex problem addiction clearly isn't as full blown as mine).  So I'm trying to be very picky now when I come across any while thrifting.  But seriously, how could I pass up butterprint and gooseberry?  I'll admit, I already have a daisy 444, but I love it so much that I figured it would become my trusty back-up (which is pretty much my rationale for everything, hence my overcrowded shelves).

Anyhow, the prices and condition were too good (and my addiction is too strong) - I couldn't leave them behind.

And so the cycle continues...<sigh>

BRIGHT Spring Green

Saw this at my local thrift shop.
I saw it...thought 'it can't be - too BRIGHT'.
Turn it over and it IS!
It's a Cinderella Casserole in BRIGHT Spring Green.
A couple scratches,
but all in all good condition.

Pyrex Upcycle

I bought this vintage 3 QT oval gratin dish a couple of years ago but it simply languished in an upper cupboard, never once having been used as a baking vessel.  A couple of months ago I was organizing the kitchen and knew that I either had to part with the dish or find a way to use it.  I set it on the coffee table to get it out of the way while I continued my work and voila! the dish revealed its true purpose to me:

I purchased river rocks and clear glass tealight holders at the craft store and within five minutes I had a lovely centerpiece.  It's on the mantel for now, but I'll move it to the dining room table once we finish our remodel.

Pyrex gettin sparce in these here parts...lol.

I was gettin to wonder if there were any Pyrex left in my neck of the woods. Been thrifting but hadn't found a thing...till yesterday...finally! I found a "Gooseberry" mixing (new one for me), paid $3...and a 1965 promo "Floral" devided dish...(new one for me) not numbered tho, also $3 all at GW. I was SO HAPPY to find something...I guarded them with my life while I continued to shop...lol.

Pyr-ethical Dilemma

i'd like to get some feedback from my fellow pyrex enthusiasts....

i was at a thrift store this afternoon and saw four pyrex bowls. three were the 441, 442 and 444 of the forest fancies and one was a 442 of colonial mist. i already have a complete set of colonial mist in the 401-404 series and i have the 441 and 442 forest fancies, so i didn't get any of them. (i actually couldn't recall if my forest fancies were reg. bowls or cinderella so i didn't get the 444, but i'm hoping it will still be there in the morning).

after that store, i checked out two more and got lucky with both a 404 and 403 pineapple (i have a 401 already), 444 yellow black gooseberry (to go with my 442) and a 404 primary/yellow to complete a set for a friend. i also found a pink daisy oval casserole! i already have one of those, but i just couldn't leave without...so now i have two

so this is my two part question. 1) if you already have a COMPLETE set of a pattern in either the 400 series or the 440 series, do you buy more bowls in the OTHER shape? and then the next question is 2) if you already have a piece and you see it again, do you buy a second one?

i don't know about the rest of you, but my collection has grown so much and so quickly, that it makes the decisions to these questions challenging. now, of course i'm not talking about elusive items like orange butterprint, stripes or dots, but for the others?

your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated.

First Fridgie & Moving Worries!

Yaye for me I bought my first fridgie, its one of the original primary blue and I will post a picture soon! You can tell it has been loved and I am delighted with the added character :) Ok now down to business. My partner, Sarah just accepted a job at UGA and we couldn't be more excited, new town new apartment and lots of anxiety about the pending move which will happen in a month, ahh! Sarah thinks I am over reacting, but I am extremely attached to my pyrex collection as most of it was inherited from my grandmothers. I am so anxious about packing it all up and allowing the movers to take it from me and put it in the new place that I have nightmares about it all being broken. I have almost completely made up my mind to pack it myself and put it in the car with other necessities that will be making the move with us 2 days before the movers come. So my question is am I absolutely bonkers or is this rational and do any of you have an insight?

Piling Up

The dishes pile up regularly at my house...because I use my Pyrex daily, for as many reasons as I can think up! And since the dishwasher is forbidden, it becomes MY job to wash them by hand. Hubby is the after-dinner-cleaner-upper, but refuses to hand wash anything. The kids have the job of unloading the dishwasher, and will tattle on daddy if the find any Pyrex in it!

Like I said, all our kitchen jobs revolve around Pyrex and Corningware. Yesterday I said I was making banana bread, and my 7yo asked "what bowl are you going to use?" (I used my Daisy cinderella bowls)

Value Village Pyrex Pricing

I found a nice piece in great condition at my local Value Village - a Butterfly Gold oval casserole for $3.99, complete with patterned lid!

I should be tickled pink that I got such a good deal, but part of me was a bit upset about VV's pricing inconsistencies! There were a few Pyrex items on the shelf that day, but they must have been priced by different people

Are you all experiencing this at your local thrift shops? Is it mainly Savers/Value Village that seems to have this problem? I have a few more photos and a little bit more ranting at my post at sixballoons.blogspot.com

Thursday Treasure

Hello fellow pyrex-maniacs!  Imagine my excitement when I caught a glimpse of the red and orange peeking through the shelves of my local op-shop.  My brain clicked and I recognised it straight away...

My very first 'friendship' piece!  I was so excited to come across this little friendly dish and am still smiling about it!  Love it when that happens.

An Unusual Pattern

It was slim pickings today at Goodwill, but I came across an interesting pattern that I've never seen before.

The piece was in fairly decent shape, but since I have round Cinderella casseroles coming out of my ears, I made a bold decision and left it behind. I snapped a pic, however, to share here since the pattern was so unusual.

The rust color was similar to the Autumn Harvest, and it said 'Corning, NY' on the bottom (in addition to 'Pyrex'), so I'm thinking maybe it's a newer pattern, circa 1980s.  Plus, look at those roses, don't they scream 1980s?

And here I thought I'd seen them all...

Big Box 'O Pyrex Lovin'

Christmas came early yesterday when the ever-so-awesome Lucky Thrifter came to my humble abode, like Oprah sneaking up on some unsuspecting mom. No, she didn't give me a new car, or a day at the spa with Gail or whatever the heck. Even better, she gave me all of her Pyrex cast-offs for $20.00. Apparently, hubby wasn't thrilled that the Pyrex had taken over the house, so she cherry picked her faves and gave me the overflow. I'm happy to fan the flames of desire and help keep homes happy. Just back up the truck and give me lot's of Pyrex. Please.

There was a bit of everything in the box, including mugs, English Pyrex, and some pieces from the OTHER manufactures of pretty bakeware.
As I always like to say: A family that packs with Corona boxes always stays together.

I now have three of these guys, but who's counting?

Does it get any sunnier? I've got love in my hand.

I feel like I have this baby, but I really don't think I do. So much for my exhaustive inventory from a few months back.
I'm pretty sure I have the entire Forest Fancies (or Shrooms as I like to call them) collection now. I'm planning on turning into a seventies housewife this summer and make lot's of seventies dishes with my Shrooms.
