And Then Things Started to Look Up...
Today was a terribly depressing thrift day. I decided to try a couple stores that I haven't been to in ages and nothing, nada, zilch.
So, alas, I nearly gave up, but decided to make one last stop, while at the same time employing a little positive visualization (as in: "I'm totally going to find something awesome at this next place. No, really, I am. Please, please, please...)
Lo and behold, something in the cosmos heard my plea and it worked. These were all on my increasingly-pared-down wishlist, and for a steal...what are the odds?
I also snagged two Dansk Kobenstyle pots for under $5 (wahoo!!). More about those here.
Happy positive Pyrex visualization to everyone!

How Did This Happen?
This is what happens when you never pass up a mini fridgie while thrifting. There could be worse things, I suppose. Until I started pulling stuff out of the cupboards I had no idea! Oops.

A Week of 444s
Daisy and Butterprint for $6.99 each and Pink Gooseberry for $5.99 |
I am swimming in cinderella mixing bowls. It's gotten to the point where they're stacked two deep in the cupboards and are lining the basement shelves. I can't even offload them onto my friends anymore (their Pyrex
Anyhow, the prices and condition were too good (and my addiction is too strong) - I couldn't leave them behind.
And so the cycle continues...<sigh>

Inspired.
Hi Pyrex friends!
I recently looked to the creamy pastel colors of vintage Pyrex and my collection of vintage knitting needles for a little bit of inspiration for a new set of items I crocheted for my Etsy shop.
I just had to share the pretty photos with you all!
If you'd like to see exactly what I created for my Etsy shop, please pop over to my little blog to find out!

Some I had to let go...
I'm a total Pyrex hoarder and the quantity is beginning to catch up with me!!!
So over the last year I decided to part with some of my treasures....
Yep I got rid of the Gooseberry! I know, I know it's a Pyrex sin! You know what? I regret it now...and bought some fridgies!
The Bride's casserole (1961). I just wasn't feeling that one...
I happy to say that I listed those cuties in my Etsy shop yesterday and they got snatched a couple of hours later!
The very famous Charleroi casserole...I wasn't feeling it either.
The Moon Deco casserole. I totally got ripped off on this one. It had suffered a couple of dishwasher rides...and I had to oil it up for the pic.
I was able to unload it on eBay while being totally truthful, like I'm always.
So this is what happens if I shop compulsively for Pyrex! Crazy Vonlipi!

Pink and Grey and White, Oh My!
Hello there my good Pyrex people! It's Anna popping over from Victory Garden Yarn to share my latest pieces of Pyrex happiness!
One benefit of using a few found objects for my crafting business is that I am forced to go on quite extensive thrifting excursions on a somewhat regular basis. Bummer, eh? I'm always hunting for gently used vintage embroidery hoops...but you know, the housewares section is usually located two steps away from the craft section in most of the thrifts...
So they make it really easy for me to get a little business AND pleasure taken care of! I have dreams of owning an entire set of dove grey Pyrex dinnerware, so two salad plates and two teacups (even with a bit of a gold stripe still intact!) are a good start. Pink Gooseberry is always welcome on my (slightly bowing with too much weight) shelves. My Pink Gooseberry count has risen from one to three, yippee!
The opal loaf pan may look like your ordinary loaf pan...but when I consulted my handy dandy Pyrex spreadsheet that I carry around with me at all times (more on that some other day...) I realized that this one is actually a half inch larger on all sides than the one I already own. Score! I actually use my loaf pans a lot; not just for baking, but around the house and on shelves to corral my wayward mail, pens, business cards, fabric, you name it. The same with the few small fridgies I have found; quarters for laundry, business cards (ooh, that gives me a good idea for my upcoming craft booths, yes!), little bits of yarn I might need for package tying...fridgies are perfect!
And that teeny tiny little carafe looks quite familiar! I think I'll be putting some colored pencils in it to go with my other small glass carafe!
Which leads me to ask all you lovely people the question: What do you use your Pyrex for, other than baking and drooling over on your beautiful display shelves?

The Pyrex god giveth, the Pyrex god taketh away...
I went back to the thrift store where I saw the strange pink gooseberry mixing bowl with the crown stamp and lo and behold, it was still there! So I brought it home, of course. Here it is:
The same day, in fact a day after I was lecturing hubby on how to take care of Pyrex (no sudden extreme temperature changes, etc., yadda, yadda, yadda), I decided to make a roast in my cranberry Pyrex pan. I was in a hurry to get dinner on the table so we could go vote and at mid-point through cooking, I pulled the pan from the oven and ran it under the tap to add a bit of water to the roast to keep it moist. Well, as you can imagine, an explosion ensued that almost gave me a heart attack! As a result, the following pan no longer has a little brother : ^( :
I'm quite aware of the irony. Oh well, better to have learned this lesson with a run of the mill piece than with a vintage one! I would have really cried then!
