Latest Haul!

This past weekend I managed to snag 5 pieces of Pyrex for $20!  I felt like I hit the jackpot!

My first purchase was at the yuppie thrift store - the divided golden acorn piece complete with lid for $5!  The Forest Fancies casserole came from another thrift store for $2.  It is in amazing shape.  This is my first Forest Fancies piece, and probably my last.  I'm not a huge fan of the pattern, but it was in such good shape I couldn't pass it up.  Plus, I try to have at least one piece from each pattern in my collection.  I picked up the two Butterprint fridgies at a grungy outdoor flea market that is always hit and miss.  But, I was there at the end of the day and got a deal on the pair!  The larger one was priced at $3, but the small one didn't have a price.  When I inquired about it to the lady running the booth, she told me she didn't want to have to pack them up and take them home, so I could have both of them for $3 - sold!  (She could have asked $3 for the little one as well and I would have taken it, but she didn't need to know that...).  My most expensive piece was the yellow New Dots bowl, which I picked up in an antique store for $10.  This is my first New Dots piece and hopefully I will eventually run across all of the pieces without resorting to buying online.

Come join my adventures at the Cul-de-sac Shack!

Canadian Erin

Desperately Seeking....

.....a red 402 bowl from the primary set.  would anyone have one that they would be interested in selling or trading?  i'm trying to complete a set to give as housewarming gift and that is the one bowl that i am missing.  it doesn't need to be in perfect condition in fact it would be best if it wasn't flawless as the other three bowls that i have show a little wear and tear.

and for your viewing pleasure, here are some pics of the last few rotations from my kitchen!

thanks, and happy pyrexing!

Seattle Area Pyrex for Sale! **UPDATED 4.24!

ETA! 4.24.12  WHOA! I can't believe how amazing Seattle Pyrex people are! I just sold 30+ pieces of Pyrex in four days!  Out of the back of my car, no less.  Anyone who needs to thin out their collection and is not sure of the easiest way to to that, I would definitely recommend a post here on the Collective reaching out to local readers, as well as on your local Craigslist.  Success!  I had a blast meeting some fellow collectors and am so happy I could help contribute to a few collections, both new and old.
Hi Pyrex friends!  Anna from Victory Garden Yarn here.  If you live in the Seattle area and are looking to bulk up your Pyrex collection, I'm your girl!  I recently decided to part with & sell some really great pieces from my beloved collection...gulp!  Before I list any of it on Craigslist though, I wanted to alert fellow Seattle area collectors (er, hoarders) on the Collective & give y'all first dibs!  I've already had one lovely person come & purchase most of the plates you see in the photo above, but most everything in the second stack is still available, including a lot more that isn't pictured! (I'd take another photo but it is now all squirreled away in my car & it is currently pouring down rain, so.)

If you live in the Seattle area & are interested, please email me at Anna@VictoryGardenYarn.com!  We're asking about $5 for each large piece, $1 for each plate/lid, and are completely flexible on pricing if you are buying multiple pieces. We are certainly open to trade, too--although we're not looking for too many things at the moment.

Happy hunting, friends!

New Pyrex added to my collection this week!

A 470-C Pink Gooseberry - only my second piece of pink Gooseberry to be added to my collection. Besides the full set of pink mixing bowls, these Gooseberry pieces make up my pink Pyrex collection!

And a boy can never have to many 403 Butterprint mixing bowls! I think I have four now?

And just for kicks, here is 3 Domino Anchor Hocking bowls.

Has spring cleaning yielded any Pyrex treasures for you yet?

Orange

I love orange, it makes me so happy. Did you know it's the official color of Mensa? I picked some orange pieces up this weekend and the Long Beach Flea Market. There was so much Pyrex there, it ranges all over the board in prices but I got some deals.

I grabbed the fridge for $6 and the 404 bowl for $10. I'm trying to cobble together an all orange nesting bowl set. The 404 and 401 are the trickiest to find in the wild so I'm pretty happy I found it rather than pay $20 plus for it online.

breaking the pyrex fast

It's been too long, Pyrex friends! I recently scored some great pieces, for the first time in ages. Has anyone else noticed the price of Pyrex skyrocketing lately? It's becoming harder and harder to find amazing deals. But at my favorite local antique mall this week, I found some great stuff:

The two designs mixing bowls (343 and 344, 1.5 and 3 QT) were $17 for the pair, but I bought them because I thought I had an in-between size. (Turned out I have the 3 QT already. If anybody is interested in it, let me know!) But the rest of the pieces were total steals. The black snowflakes baking dish is a weird size (548, 1.25 QT) and was on sale for $4.67! The orchard Cinderella bowl (441, 1.5 pints) was $4 and is going to be a gift for my mom. The green casserole (024, 2 QT) was just $3.90. Not too shabby!

First Friendship

Hi everyone Terra here. I haven't made many posts recently, because I haven't been finding much Pyrex lately. As everyone has been saying thrift stores have really caught on. Actually today when I picked up my find the lady at Previously Loved said back again? You love your dishes. I swear she knows I collect it and has upped the price on Pyrex since I've started thrifting there. But it's not like I can leave Pyrex behind!

My latest find:

I was so excited. But it was the thrift store kind of excited, where you can't show your excitement. While digging through shelves I spotted it, and wanted to scream, but had to act really cool about it while picking it up. Not that it really would've mattered, there was no one close to me. But I really don't want Pyrex prices going up anymore. This 1 qt 473 was $6.99. More than I would've liked to pay but for Pyrex, for Friendship, wild Friendship, I think it was a deal.

My other recent finds are all Cinderella bowls.

The biggest is Blue Horizon 4 qt 444, found at Previously Loved for $9.99, the yellow and brown are Town at Country, the smallest 1.5 pt 441 was $3.99, and the bigger 2.5 qt 443 was $6.99 both from Value Village.

I hesitated on the 4 qt at first for $9.99, but the last time I'd seen one in a thrift store it was $19.99, so I figured I should get it rather than have buyers remorse.

What is your max price on the Cinderella bowls?

Slightly Off Topic Request

Hello there,
I know this is a sacred sight of Pyrexia, so forgive me for a small request.

Do you live in the Greater Toronto Area? Are you a crazy, funny yard sale queen?
If you answered yes to these questions, please email me at monkeyintherocket@yahoo.ca
I am helping someone with a project. I don't mean to be circumspect, but that's all I can say for now.

Smothering you in Butterprintly love,
Canadian Erin

Interesting finds

In my travels this past month through Missouri and Southern Illinois to see my family, I have come across some interesting Pyrex finds. First, check out this absolutely perfect 1-quart casserole in a pattern called "Vintage," with a green Lucite holder:

I found a "Bride's" pattern promotional casserole, but no lid. I bought it anyway, since the casserole was in such good condition and the pattern is so cheerful:

These like-new custard cups in their original box were a great find at only $7. I'm going to have to make chocolate mousse! The cups are very delicate, with a thin rim. The box says, "Your desserts look better served in these dainty dishes."

But I think the item below was my biggest prize, and I don't even know what to call it. Both the dish and the lid are marked Pyrex.

Does anyone know the approximate time frame for this clear glass serving piece? It is fairly small. The base only holds 2 cups of water and is marked 110C. The lid is marked 194. My guess is that this piece is very early. Does anyone have a similar one?

Just an inkling...

Hello Pyrex friends!  Anna from Victory Garden Yarn here.  I recently took a trip to visit family...and returned home to my pokey little Seattle apartment with an armload of new Pyrex!  The fridgies above are just an inkling of the perfectly pretty pieces I found on my journey to California.  You can see the rest of my newest additions by hopping over to my blog, The Victory Garden: Yarn and Curiosities.

I must admit, I never thought I would find a Gooseberry fridgie in the wild, and it might just be my newest prized piece of Pyrex!
What are some of your most prized Pyrex pieces?

adding to the family

I'm officially out of room on my Pyrex shelves. I'm not sure if this means I need to let some go or just find more shelves. Probably find more shelves amirite?

The newest members of my cookware family are two divided dishes. An aqua and a yellow. I didn't know that the aqua existed, I saw it online and checked my go-to reference photo. I check Pyrex Pixie's collection whenever I'm unsure if an aqua piece really exists or it's just a badly photographed robin's egg blue.

Now I've got all this division to do, what foods shall I segregate?

I found this guy this weekend at the flea market. It's all white and it's not stamped on the bottom but the lid says "501-0". I don't think it will be staying with me. I will probably sell or trade it.
