Display

It's been a while since I updated my display. Before it looked like this:

Then I was prompted (forced) to rearrange the display by my cats breaking a pitcher from my other collection (Taste Setter):

I moved my cookbooks elsewhere and took down the green fabric background. I think it looks a bit tidier.

The Taste Setter collection is my personal white whale. It is impossible to find so if you ever see any I'm happy to reimburse you! (Email me)

Update

Just wanted to share an update of my collection. I'm limiting myself to only Daisy/Citrus Yellow, Aqua and Daisy/Citrus Orange and the special Green that they only made two pieces in.

If you want to see my whole kitchen check it out here.

Want to fill a 502?

I've got the perfect recipe for filling a 502. Homemade Cheez-Its.

I can't guarantee that it will remain full for long. These are amazing! You can find the super simple recipe HERE.  My tips for this recipe are to roll them thin, make sure to get them down to 1/8". You don't need a cookie cutter you can use a knife to cute the squares and instead of Kosher salt I used sea salt and sprinkled some on the top of the crackers as well.

Enjoy!

Just an inkling...

Hello Pyrex friends!  Anna from Victory Garden Yarn here.  I recently took a trip to visit family...and returned home to my pokey little Seattle apartment with an armload of new Pyrex!  The fridgies above are just an inkling of the perfectly pretty pieces I found on my journey to California.  You can see the rest of my newest additions by hopping over to my blog, The Victory Garden: Yarn and Curiosities.

I must admit, I never thought I would find a Gooseberry fridgie in the wild, and it might just be my newest prized piece of Pyrex!
What are some of your most prized Pyrex pieces?

adding to the family

I'm officially out of room on my Pyrex shelves. I'm not sure if this means I need to let some go or just find more shelves. Probably find more shelves amirite?

The newest members of my cookware family are two divided dishes. An aqua and a yellow. I didn't know that the aqua existed, I saw it online and checked my go-to reference photo. I check Pyrex Pixie's collection whenever I'm unsure if an aqua piece really exists or it's just a badly photographed robin's egg blue.

Now I've got all this division to do, what foods shall I segregate?

I found this guy this weekend at the flea market. It's all white and it's not stamped on the bottom but the lid says "501-0". I don't think it will be staying with me. I will probably sell or trade it.

Aqua Fridgies - Craigslisted!

Hi Pyrex Collective, it's SixBalloons here!

I think we probably all have our own personal "Wishlist" of Pyrex items - if you are anything like me, you'll occassionally haunt eBay and see if you can scoop a smoking deal on say, the New Dots set of bowls or something.

One set that I love looking for are the Aqua Fridgies, which regularly go for more than $100. I was browsing Craigslist recently and saw a local ad posting a set of the Aqua 501, 502 and 503 for... wait for it... Fifteen Dollars!!

Was it too good to be true? I phoned and emailed the seller right away, but didn't hear back for almost a week. During that time, the ad was deleted and I figured someone else lucked out.

If you're interested in what happened and to check out more photos of my new Aqua Fridgie Set, come by my longer post at http://sixballoons.blogspot.ca/2012/03/pyrex-aqua-fridgie-set.html to read all about it and tell me what you would have done!

Resistance is Futile

If you've followed my previous posts you know that I stick firmly to my self imposed rule of only collecting Aqua, Orange and Daisy/Citrus Yellow.

I broke my own rule.

How could I resist? It's the special grass green color that I've only seen two pieces in (The crazy quilt and this utility dish).

Here's out it looks with the rest of my collection, it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, just kind of blends in to the aqua.

(Sorry for the bad lighting. My overhead kitchen light is out)

I'm so glad they didn't make a whole collection in this color, otherwise I might be in trouble.

Pie!

For Christmas I made two pies and of course used my Pyrex. Wanna see? Good!

The first was a pecan pie I had made before with ok results. This time it turned out much better.

The second was a deep dish apple pie. I only have one pie plate so the cake pan does a beautiful job holding all the apples.

I served them with homemade ice cream and whipped cream 'natch. The apple pie was declared the best ever by no less than four people. I'm convinced it was the Pyrex (and my mad baking skillz)

Displayed

Here's what my collection looked like in August:

Here it is today:

I didn't think it could get better than the aqua and orange combo but adding the school bus/daisy/citrus yellow really does it for me. I love it!

I've slowed down on collecting, I actually have the will to say no to pieces now. I'd like to cobble together a set of bowls with the two 403's I have (orange and yellow) and I don't think I can ever say no to a fridgie...oh and if I found large orange utility pan I certainly won't turn it down.

Pie!

I had posted before about how owning a pie plate forced me to learn how to start making pies. Now I present to you, My second pie ever :

It's an adaptation of Martha Stewart's Banana Cream Pie. I just made the chocolate version. I also found it to be pretty sloppy on it's own so I froze it and made it sort of an ice cream pie.

It was amazing.

Bowled Over

By my new vintage butterprint bowl!

Vintage Butterprint 444 Cinderella Bowl!
I found this one while out thrifting.  It was sitting on the shelf all lonely, it must have been waiting for me :)
It's been paired up with my 442 bowl.
It was so nice to finally come across more of my favorite pattern.  Butterprint has been pretty elusive lately.  Now I just need the two white cinderella bowls to complete my set!

Happy Friday thrifting!

Just when you think you're done, this sickness pulls you back in. I went to the Long Beach Flea Market this weekend and came home with some goodies.

I got all of this is for $20. I really like the way the school bus yellow looks with my orange and aqua. I already had the aqua square baker but for $5 I couldn't resist. It was pretty dirty with some caked on food but nothing that a toothpick and some Barkeeper's friends couldn't take care of.

Can anyone tell me what collection this particular shade of yellow belongs to? Is it Daisy?

A Bit of a Birthday Thrift

Hi Pyrex friends!  I recently celebrated a rather momentous occasion: my thirtieth birthday.  When asked what I wanted to do in honor of that momentous occasion, I promptly declared: thrift!

So my handy dandy chauffeur (tee hee, boyfriend!) drove me on not only one day but two days to some of our favorite thrift and and antique stops here in the greater Seattle area.  And my goodness did we find some amazing Pyrex!
This isn't anywhere near all of what we found, oh no, so if you would like to see the rest of it in all it's glory, please hop on over to my blog!
Part One is here and Part Two is here.

Yes...I had to break it into two installments...!
Happy thrifting, friends!

Mac n' Cheese

Last night I was cooking dinner and the power went out. Thankfully we have a gas stove so dinner went on cooking uninterrupted but when it was finished I was hampered. I made mac n' cheese and it was so beautiful in my aqua Pyrex. The trouble was my camera was out of batteries and since the power was out I couldn't charge it. There was no way I was waiting to dig into it so I took a camera phone shot. Sorry for the quality but I had to share (the pic not the mac n' cheese)!

I'm not one for bragging but this was the most delicious macaroni and cheese I've ever tasted. It had three cheeses, broccoli, spinach and artichoke hearts in it with a super buttery breadcrumb crust. It was one of those dishes where you just throw a bunch of stuff in it and hope for the best. I'm thoroughly convinced Pyrex is magic and makes everything taste better.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Last time I checked in with you guys my collection looked like this:

When I moved in to my place in January this was the first project that I did. At the time that orange was the best color I could find. Last month I got a bit tired with it. It just wasn't working for me. It seemed a bit dark for such a happy collection.

I dug through my fabrics (I have an etsy shop so fabric is abundant) and found a great swath of green I had used above the stairs in my last place. You can see it's original use here.

Much better! It's bright, cheery and goes well with the orange and aqua Pyrex. I've decided I'm going to sprinkle in some more of the school bus yellow pieces. For the next two weekends I've got some flea markets to go to so I'm hoping they produce for me.

Completed My first Set!

This past weekend I completed this set. The blue bowl was finally found!
I blogged all about it and have way more photos there. I actually think I took over 40 photos of just the bowls. No I did not put them all up on my blog nor was I going to plaster them here. But I totally thought about it. My excitement is that much. they are fabulous in every photo!
Finally, your home Mr. Blue!
Pink Daisy on the right is so faded. I don't care and neither will my meatloaf.
It was a wonderful Pyrex weekend indeed for me.

Finishing Touches

My husband and I found some great stuff at the Long Beach Flea Market this Sunday. I grabbed two pieces that kinda, sorta finish my collection.

An aqua 023 1.5 quart and an orange 043 1.5 quart. I think the orange one is part of the Daisy but with a clear lid. Can anyone confirm that? The flea market had TONS of Pyrex. Every row had one or two people who were selling copious amounts of it. The prices ranged from reasonable (I paid $10 a piece for my finds) to outrageous ($70 for a set of three aqua nesting bowls).

Here is my collection as of right now. There are two pieces not pictured that live on another bookcase. Seeing that one lonely yellow piece makes me think I need one or two more. Just a fridgie or a casserole. It never ends does it?

More Turquoise

I got a special present in the mail today...

The large utility dish and the round cake pan...This kind of completes my collection.

I say kind of because there are still the lidded mixing bowls out there that I'd like to get my hands on but they aren't a priority right now, oh and maybe the Daisy orange fridgie...and maybe the elusive "Clover Berry" or "Lucky in Love" casseroles. Maybe it's not so complete after all!

$3 Aqua Snowflake Divided Dish!

Hello Pyrex Collective, it's SixBalloons here! I have another great Pyrex find to share. I am starting to think this Spring Cleaning theory really does have some legs... Or maybe I've just been hitting up the thrift stores more now that the weather is nicer?

My find was a new Snowflake divided dish in the white background with aqua snowflakes, purchased for $3 with the lid! I think it looks great stacked up with my Dandelion Divided Dish! I love how easy it is to coordinate Pyrex pieces.

Erin has also adjusted some settings so that I can review statistics for the Pyrex Collective site, i.e. number of page views, where readers are visiting from, and what the most popular posts are. I was planning to do a post sometime to share this information since some of you may be interested!

Please stop by and visit to see more photos at my post Aqua Snowflake Divided Dish!
