Found: Royal Wheat Promotional
Dandelion Promotional Piece for Christmas!
Love the wispy thistles and random-ish pattern. I feel so lucky to have this piece and can't believe it is from 1959! I promise to be very careful with this dish but I am definitely going to put it to use. Too pretty to be put away, don't you think?
If you're interested in more photos of this piece and how much Santa paid for it, I've got more details at my full post here!

An Introduction and my Most Interesting Find....
My creative or thrify DIY suggestions are posted on my blog "Within My Means." I thrift weekly in my neighborhood in Los Angeles, either to keep for myself, give as gifts, or often to list on my Etsy shop. I keep a keen eye for promotionals, or brightly colored, popular patterns. I was ecstatic when I came across this huge 2.5 L Cinderella Casserole dish because though an avid reader of a few blogs devoted to Pyrex, I'd never seen this pattern.
The resources available when I need to do a little research have really opened up to me through this blog and the Flickr groups. I look forward to learning more from each other and sharing my finds! What Pyrex pages do you follow on Facebook, and do you find them useful? Please let me know in a blog comment.
Some Post-Christmas Pyrex
I did come away with some goodies, though I left wishing they would split up that black/white Gooseberry cinderella bowl set. I'm missing the #441.
Some new dots, golden tulip, friendship, mod kitchen, and golden poinsettias, and a fun day to top it off!

a very pyrex christmas
I'm at it again!
I've added another piece to my collection of promotional pieces! Promotional pieces are my favorite to collect. There may not be a series of them like you would find with Butterprint or Spring Blossom, but I like that they are unique, and were only available for a limited time.
My newest promotional find is this 1 1/2 quart Regency casserole. The Regency promotional pattern dates to Fall 1965. It's another find off of the big auction site. $3.99 plus shipping. I was pleased. Also, I think that with it's brown paint with the caramel color print, it looks pretty good with my vintage sofa!
Does anybody else collect the promotional peices? I'd love to see more! Happy hunting!
Merry Christmas to me!

The Whole Pyrex Safety Story
In 2000, Corning Consumer Products division changed its name to World Kitchen, Inc. and can be found online at http://www.worldkitchen.com They have FAQs at: http://www.pyrexware.com/index.asp?pageId=30
They state that they have used the same soda lime glass for the past 60 years at the same factory in Pennsylvania. It isn't anything new. They DO give tips for how to prevent their products from shattering due to thermal shock, so please review them for your own safety. They go beyond anything else we've seen about protecting ourselves from what can be a horrifying situation with four simple rules. There are a couple that I've been breaking and I will change my ways immediately! (No metal trivets...... really? I've cooled my bread that way for 50 years!) I'd paste them in here, but Blogger won't let me paste, so go see it all for yourself. Some may surprise you as much as they did me!
We all love our Pyrex (and I love my Corningware products just as much!) and want to protect it and ourselves. I shudder to think of a piece shattering with a child in the kitchen, so please, follow their advice for staying safe and enjoying your beautiful Pyrex.

Santa Came!
A Green Wheat promotional space saver (no lid but it's the first space saver I've ever seen up close!!!) And English Pyrex in a pattern that I believe to be named Blue Iris in a Mommy and a Baby size.
The English Pyrex I opened last night and the Promotional casserole was waiting for me under the coffee table (We don't have a tree this year) when I woke up!
The Pyrex Night before Christmas
THE PYREX NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a Pyrex was being stirred, not even by a mouse;
The Christmas casseroles were laid in the fridge with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of colourful fridgies danced in their heads;
Everything was now all nicely wrapped,
And I had just settled down for a long winter's nap,
When out in the kitchen there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Down the stairs I flew like a flash,
Tore open the French doors and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to baking dishes below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh full of Pyrexware.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
He started taking out Pyrex dishes of great fame,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, Butterprint! now, Butterfly Gold! now, Friendship and Daisy!
On, Snowflake! On Spring Blossom! on, Homestead and Horizon Blue!
To the top of the counter! to the top of the table!
Now stash away! stash away! stash away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the cupboards the dishes they flew,
With the sleigh full of glassware, and St. Nicholas too.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of bowls he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a Gooseberry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a Cinderella bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas and lots of Pyrex to all, and to all a good-night."

Serendipity
This is Your Captain Calling
Here's me about to partake in a coffee ceremony at an Ethiopian restaurant last spring. See, I'm not just an enigma. Sadly, there was no Pyrex on the table, but they do serve popcorn with their coffee. Good Kwanzaa!

If you have some pieces you would like to trade you can find my contact info on my blog, Tall Glass of Water, or contact me through my Flickr page.
My goal is to complete my Woodland fridge set. Yes, I once said that I thought Woodland was ugly. But it has grown on me :) Do you participate in this flicker group? I think it's such a great idea. Hope I get some bites on my pieces!

Bring your Pyrex to work day!
Well, it wasn't really bring your Pyrex to work day, but could you imagine that?? Desks adorned with colourful Pyrex would certainly pretty up any office and improve workplace morale in my opinion! I most certainly enjoyed seeing this dish on my own desk all day yesterday. Is it wrong that I left it on my desk all day AGAIN today...empty?
Here's a pic of what was in it...soft gingerbread sandwiches with Oreo cookie filling.

Come to Mama
I was so happy, that I even picked up this small Pyrex measuring cup. So what if it doesn't have metric measurements on it. It's still a classic.
Pyrex Fridgies!
I just wanted to share some cute refrigerator dishes that I found recently. The cute small round casserole dish with lid is my first pink piece, and I was really surprised to find the red fridgie in such great condition. I also really love the blue loaf pan's size and colour, so I was happy to stumble upon this "duplicate" for my collection.
I'm looking forward to having some time off next week... Merry Christmas to you all if I don't have anything else to share before then!

Pattern Please?
I recently picked up this blue with gold floral pattern 1 1/2 quart casserole (complete with carrier!) on the big auction site. I couldn't help it. When I saw that rich blue color, I was hooked. It has got the be the most pristine piece in my collection. There isn't even the tiniest scratch in the blue, and the gold printing is flawless. If this was ever used, it was handled extremely carefully. I'm thinking that this piece was probably a promotional piece, but I'm not sure. I don't have a clue what the pattern name is. Does anybody else have this piece, or know what the pattern is? I'm thinking that it just might look really good at Christmas dinner filled with a green bean casserole!
