For Trade!

So the living room/ dining room redo is almost over and now it is time to re-evaluate the massive stock pile of glass ware (I.E. pyrex...) Well most of it is Pyrex! hehe

Here is some of the Pyrex I have to trade so far....

A large 503 bright orange fridgie from the Daisy set. The smaller one is kind of spoken for....for the time being.

A Pink 502 fridgie. The lid has changed....it is now a pre-1950 lid, with just stripes on the sides.

A lovely JAJ english Pyrex fridgie.

A small Woodland casserole with lid.

 A Horizons divided casserole.

A small Frienship casserole sans lid.

A Laurel RW platter

A Red Kettle RW serving platter

I am sure I have more pieces up for trade but I haven't got the time yet to go through the boxes!

Here are some of the pieces I'm looking for:

The very elusive metal chip and dip clip
A 2 1/2 quarts 045 Charcoal Snowflake casserole
A 502 and 503 Gooseberry
2 salad/dessert Flamingo plates (Pyrex dinnerware)

Now if you're interested but you don't have what I'm looking for don't hesitate and write me because you might have a piece that I don't even know I need!

All my pieces have been used but gently some have scratches, but NOTHING has been in the dishwasher and they don't have chips.

My email address is in my profile and drop my blog also I love your visits !

Have a great evening :)

Branching Out

I made a vow to stick with Butterprint only, but it didn't take long to break that one when I saw this Friendship divided casserole! It's just too hard to say no to such a cheery color combo like this one.

Divided dish....question

This divided dish sans lid was part of my recent Pyrex haul. I think it's either part of the Old Orchard set, or Town and Country. I'm almost 100% sure it isn't from the Butterfly Gold line because it's a lot darker. Definitely more brown than gold. I'd appreciate any help in identifying it. Thanks in advance! :)

What If...

I took the gravy boat I found a couple weeks ago...

...and baked my favorite banana-chocolate chip muffin recipe in it?

And what if...

I baked some of it in a divided dish?

Still just as yummy, but so cute too!

I decreased the oven temp to 330 degrees instead of 350.  The batch in the divided dish was done in 25 minutes.  The gravy boats took 35 minutes.

After 10 minutes of cooling, they slid right out, easy-peasy.  I just used a little cooking spray before they went in.

The gravy boat made just the right size little mini-loaf, perfect to share with a friend over coffee.  By the way, that adorable embroidered tea towel is by Mom Wald!

I'm thinking the divided dish might make a cute egg-shaped Easter cake.

Pyrex Price Gouging

Would you pay $50 for this???!?

I sure hope not!! But an unscrupulous (or uneducated) thrift store owner was banking on it. This is one of the gifts a friend gave me. I know for sure that she didn't pay $50 for it.

This brings my collection of divided dishes to three. Down from four, because today I gifted my barbed wire divided to a friend (who squealed and 'fake fainted' to the floor with delight! Admit it...how many of you have done the same ;) ) She had admired it out loud several times in the past couple of months. I knew from the moment I found it that it would be perfect for her, and planned to give it to her as soon as I found a divided that I'd want to keep for myself. I am quite happy with my trio.

And here's a coincidence...at the moment I found the Barbed Wire at Value Village, I got a call on my cell (I was still in Value Village!) from my other friend to tell me that she had scored some great Pyrex finds for me that day, including the Daisy divided casserole. She was calling me with an armload of Pyrex while I was standing there with an armload of Pyrex!

Three Great Pyrex Finds!

I found three great things at my local thrift today!

A Butterprint set missing just one bowl A pristine blue divided dish (sadly missing the lid) and a small brown casserole. I don't usually like the brown Pyrex, but I like these white flowers alot (maybe one of you can tell me what pattern it is)!

I Broke My Pyrex Fast

I know that's a goofy title for a post, but I am drawing a blank for something better.  What I mean is, it seems like I've had a long spell without buying any Pyrex—a fast, as it were.  The other day, however, I broke the fast when I found this Golden Acorn divided dish at Goodwill.

It was peeking out from under a bunch of random glass lids piled up on the cart full of things waiting to be put on the shelves.  Well, this pretty thing didn't have to wait any longer, it came home with me!

There was also a large Spring Daisy casserole with a Verde lid taped to it.  The lid was chipped along the edge and since it was taped together, I couldn't see what the inside of the casserole looked like, so I left it behind.  My pet peeve with my local Goodwill is that they will throw a bad (damaged or unmatched) lid on top and then ask a higher price for the "set."  I've tried negotiating in these situations, without success. Oh well.

This bowl isn't new, but since the late afternoon sunlight was nice in the kitchen when I made this slaw yesterday, I thought I'd take a couple pictures.  The name of this pattern escapes me at the moment.

Shredded cabbage, green onion, red peppers, carrots, and sliced mushrooms tossed with a balsamic vinaigrette. Yum!

Antique Store Prices!

Hello Pyrex Collective! It's SixBalloons here!

I was peering into the window of a closed antique shop on my way home from work today and spotted some amazing Pyrex pieces. Unfortunately, one of the price tags I saw was amazing too!

This turquoise or aqua 2-quart round casserole came with a lid and rack that I had never seen before. I am not sure if they are original to the piece, as I thought these pieces typically came with a clear lid. Can you believe the $59 price tag? Ouch. It was a beautiful colour though, and in great condition too.

The store also had a beautiful promotional Royal Divided Dish with matching gold medallion lid in perfect condition. I wasn't able to see the sales tag but I'm sure it was out my price range. The royal blue colour on this pan is gorgeous! I think someone posted the other day that they had found the dish without lid. I think it would go nicely with the Horizon Blue pattern indeed.

Sorry for the quality of the photos, the daylight was burning away, and I was on the other side of the window... I assure you, they looked quite perfect in person. =)  I think I will visit this store again and check out the more humble Pyrex pieces outside of the window display. Who knows, there may be some reasonably priced gems back there.

Stop by sometime and say hello at sixballoons.blogspot.com!

Using a Divided Casserole for Separate Dietary Needs

I am a rather new victim of Pyrexia.  I have been following this blog for awhile, yet this is my very first post.  I try to stick to my patterns, gooseberry pink, any pink or solid white, really... but we will see how long that lasts, huh?

Anyway, I wanted to post how using a divided casserole dish has made preparing dinners a lot easier.  My husband, David, and I are on two different eating plans.  I follow a low carb way of eating while he does more of a weight watchers plan.  This has made planning dinner quiet a chore.

With the divided casserole dishes, I can, at least serve dinner in style.  I just put his meal on one side and mine, without the rice, pasta, potatoes, or other carbs, in the other side.  If you would like to read more about these particular dishes, please visit my blog, Ramblings from a Girlie Girl Housewife.

the lid does not go with this...but it works, ok, for now.

I bought the white mixing bowl, along with a larger one, at an estate sale for 4 dollars.  I believe it used to be a color but all came off with poor care.  I liked it white, it matches me pieces better, so I bought it and the larger one.  The larger one had a few spots of color on it and there were a few bowls in different sizes that were completly colored, that is what brings me to the conclution these used to be a color, as well.  I think they are part of the primary color mixing bowl set, after digging around a bit.  Now I wish I picked the other bowls up, as well.

I bought the casserole from an antique mall for 4 dollars, too, I think.  I know it was very inexpensive.  The lid came from a thrift store, I thought it would fit.  How do you go about finding the lids that fit?  Are they numbered the same as the bowls?  I see lids all the time at thrift stores but hate to make mistakes about fit.

I really enjoy this blog and am excited about part 2, as well.
