New Dot Pyrex - Finally!

My first ever "New Dot" Pyrex!
I changed my blog name from momwaldsplace to marywaldsvintageplace.blogspot.com.  It is nice to finally have a fresh piece of vintage Pyrex to share on it.

Crumble

This morning my CSA box came and it was full of strawberries and rhubarb. My mind immediately started thinking what baked goods I could make with this sweet and tart combination. Then it hit me Strawberry-Rhubarb Crumble!

I used the recipe from Smitten Kitchen. It was ridiculously easy and incredibly delicious and Pyrex being Pyrex, you can use and bake the bowl you mix the filling in. I used the kelly/grass green  #024 for the filling and baking and a yellow #403 to mix the topping in. You don't have to be exact with the amount of fruit you use, I had less than the recipe called for and it was fine.

Strawberry-Rhubarb Crumble

Yields 6 to 8 servings.

For the topping:
1 1/3 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
6 tablespoons sugar
Zest of one lemon
1 stick of unsalted butter, melted

For the filling:
1 1/2 cups rhubarb, chopped into 1-inch pieces
1 quart strawberries, hulled, quartered
Juice of one lemon
1/2 cup sugar
3 to 4 tablespoons cornstarch
Pinch of salt

1. Heat oven to 375°F. Prepare topping: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugars and lemon zest and add the melted butter. Mix until small and large clumps form. Refrigerate until needed.

2. Prepare filling: Toss rhubarb, strawberries, lemon juice, sugar, cornstarch and a pinch of salt.

3. Remove topping from refrigerator and cover fruit thickly and evenly with topping. Place pie plate on a baking sheet, and bake until crumble topping is golden brown in places and fruit is bubbling beneath, about 40 to 50 minutes.

Enjoy!

Green

While wondering around the city today, I found myself in the middle of the 420 "Toronto Hash Mob" pot protest/celebration while getting off the subway at Dundas Square here in Toronto. The scent of marijuana filled the air, people were everywhere. Not somewhere you'd normally find me, I made my way to Goodwill where I found a #403 Spring Blossom Green Mixing bowl (my first Spring Blossom Green) & to complete my primary set, I have added the primary green #403 to my collection. Some might consider my Pyrex a big festive considering the celebration.

Yours truly,

Sir Thrift-A-Lot

PS: I don't know about you, but there had been a Pyrex drought over here! I'm glad the drought is over.

A home for my junks

I posted this on my regular blog and my thrifting blog but I had to share it here too as all the pieces are one I've documented here.

This was the first project I tackled in my new apartment (I just moved from Seattle to Los Angeles). Luckily all my Pyrex survived the move and have a new happy home.

New Obsession!

I've been collecting Pyrex for 4 years now. At first I hungered for ALL the pieces but as time passed and my collection grew, I started being 'picky' and passing entire patterns.
A couple of weeks ago, I started obsessing about Spring Blossom Green and Crazy Daisy. It made me think of Spring and flowers and sunshine.

So today I changed my display in the kitchen...

Best Friends!

Chatting...

My new acquisitions? A small fridgie and the larger refrigerator dish of the Verde set.

Aren't they fresh and sweet?

Well, Well, Well...

The long wait has finally ended (ok three months)...

I finally completed my set with the 401.

I feel so satisfied!

Now on to finding more aqua pieces! Have you seen this? I about died.

Almost Whole.

Well first there was the big one, then the almost baby and now...

All together now!

The middle child! I picked it up at an antique mall. It wasn't as cheap as the big one but fairly priced for an antique mall.

Here they await the arrival of the last one. I'm hoping it just pops out at me next time I'm in a thrift store and it's $2 and in perfect condition. A girl can dream can't she?

Whoa...

For the past week and half my computer has been in the shop. I had over a thousand pictures to edit and go through but most importantly I had Pyrex finds that I couldn't share!

I'm going to start with my most recent find and debatably the best.

Recently I had set myself some limits, one being that I would only collect aqua and some certain patterns but wouldn't you know it, I forgot about orange! Orange is my favorite color and for $2.99 there was no way I was walking out of Goodwill without this one. It's a 403 Mixing bowl. I'm wondering were theses a set like the primary and the aqua bowls?

The decanter was a steal at $4.99, I couldn't believe the cork was still attached. It really looks like it was never used. I doubt I'll put wine in it like it's original intent. I don't want the cork to get discolored. It will most likely end up on my nightstand for water.
