Hello, my name is Angie and I am a Pyrexahaulic ;)

I must say I feel blessed to be in the company of such amazing, fellow Pyrex lovers! I have been so caught up in my search for Pyrex that I have failed to introduce myself and make my introductory post so..Hi! Here's a quick bio about how I became a vintage Pyrex girl:

  • had to take medical leave for Spring semester
  • spent exorbitant amount of time online
  • began blogging
  • joined Pinterest
  • "met" Jeni , In Color Order
  • got inspired
  • started thrifting regularly at Goodwill
  • first flea market trip on May 7th
  • vintage Pyrex collection started on..May 7th !!!!!
So, there you have it my fellow Pyrexahaulics...the rest is, well, history-in-the-making. I am loving this new passion and my dear boyfriend is totally on board, bless his heart. He will be off for 7 glorious days starting Friday and a-thrifting we shall go...yay!!! I cannot promise I  will blog on a schedule because I'm a bit ( a lot) ADHD. I will, however, promise to uphold the standards of Pyrexahaulics everywhere...my Pyrex will be hunted, purchased, hand washed, dried, photographed, adored, and lovingly displayed to the best of my ability. And, yes, I will share my adventures with all of you..as often as ... Hey, is the Pyrex on my watch list about to end?!!!
Happy Pyrexing!!!
my Pyrex in action...Cobb salad...mmmm, good! I currently have the most Pyrex in Spring Blossom Green and Square Flowers ;)

Fridgies!

Since I starting collecting Pyrex about a year ago, I noticed that fridgies seem to be hard to find here in the Twin Cities. Fridgies in good condition are even rarer. This past few weeks, luck has been on my side.

My first set (minus the largest fridgie) I found together. They were pushed to the back of the shelf near the bottom. I had been talking to another shopper (the two fiesta sets in my cart caught her eye) and wasn't really paying attention to what was on the shelf until another shopper moved a couple of ... well, something. I don't remember. I just remember seeing the pyrex. And diving for it.

Okay, so I didn't dive for it. That's what I did in my mind. Luckily, I was able to stop myself before I did that. Whew!

When I had a chance, I pushed a few more items aside and pulled out a three piece set of Spring Blossom. It looks like it is unused. Beautiful!

My first pieces of pyrex were a set of Spring Blossom cinderella bowls. (I had bought them because my mom had a set of them when I was growing up. And would never let me use them.)
I have slowly been collecting other Spring Blossom pieces as I find them in thrift stores.

The two smaller ones cost $2 each and the larger one cost $3. Not bad.

About a week later, at different store, I found this one in the Woodland pattern. Again, it was pushed to the back of the shelf with other items hiding it. After a quick inspection, it was paid for and on it's way home with me. It was in excellent condition, just like the ones above.

Not a huge fan of this pattern (like many of you), but it's growing on me. As I mentioned before, fridgies seem to be hard to find here in the TC, so I was feeling lucky to find one even if it wasn't in a pattern I collect.

This one cost me $4.

Since they seem to be hard to find, you can imagine my surprise when I found this blue fridgie with an older lid last night! I hesitated for a minute before I decided to purchase it. Glad I decided to buy it as I'm sure it would have been gone by the time I went back.

Yes, it was a little more than I am usually willing to pay at a thrift store, but it was in great shape with only one small chip in the paint. And I haven't seen a blue fridgie that was in such good condition before.

This one set me back $8.00.

Here are all my fridgies together. My beautiful, growing collection of fridgies.

As this is my first post, I would just like to say that I love seeing all your photos and reading your stories. Keep 'em coming!

Happy pyrex hunting this weekend, everybody!

pyrex pet peeve

i know the words in that title don't usuall go together... but i have to vent a little about the things that "irk" me when shopping for pyrex:
**and as a sidenote, these pictures are really bad quality**

#1 when sellers price the items for what they are worth versus what people will actually pay for them.
10 bucks for tiny fridgies (that had been run through a dishwasher a few times)?! umm NO. the funny thing is, this particular seller has a booth at another local thrift store and she has her pyrex priced MUCH lower. weird.
#2 when they label the items "vintage/antique bake ware". umm if you are going to go to the trouble of over-describing it... at least flip the bowl over and read PYREX on the bottom. haha

#3 (and this might just be cooky ole me) when i make up a story about the person who owns the booth... and it turns out they are the total opposite of what i thought.
for example, i had it in my head that the lady who had all the pyrex in this one booth was older, maybe a sweet grandmother, who was down-sizing her home, possibly moving into an apartment or in with a daughter, and she had to find a way to get rid of all her vintage pyrex, Tupperware and other kitchen gadgets. (hey, it could happen right?)well it turns out (after i asked the store owner to describe her... i promise it's a lot less creepy than it sounds. haha) she is a middle-aged Asian woman who yard sales every weekend and then turns around and sells the goods to people like me. i just thought it would be nice to get this off my chest. hopefully all this "complaining" doesn't jinx me for my pyrex hunt this weekend.
do y'all have any "pyrex pet peeves"?
p.s. i recently RACKED UP on more blue pieces.

Treasure Trove

I live in West Seattle and there is a great Antique Mall here. It's three floors of STUFF. Clothes, bakeware, furniture. Anything and everything and most importantly Pyrex.

I was there on the hunt for my elusive 401 Aqua bowl and sadly found THREE 401 in primary blue. The prices aren't too bad. Most of the big bowls are around $18.

They do have TONS of Pink Pyrex. It isn't a favorite of mine but if it was I'd be in heaven. I saw cake pans, mixing bowls lots of pink.

So if you're ever in Seattle stop in and don't forget to visit the PYREX MUSEM in Bremerton (which I fully plan on visiting soon and doing a post about!)

I made cornbread in Pyrex!

I made cornbread last night. I was having flash backs of childhood. I have no problems using my bowls to mix stuff up in. It's when I have to bake something in the oven.

That is when I kinda sorta panic and say NO BAKING in the precious Pyrex!!

I am just now using my Pyrex. Actually using it. Ok not all. Some. Ok just a few.
LOOK what my thrifty store does to me sometimes.
They write in marker on the Precious Pyrex.
I wanted to say WHO DID THIS?
Who is the one that keeps writing on the Precious Pyrex?
What is wrong with you people!

It's not GW or SA. It's my hidden gem of a store. I found 3 fridge dishes there. 2 red 1 blue. No lids. I left one red behind cause it was way way way way ultra way scratched up and way beyond faded that you could hardly make out that it was red. I did not feel guilty for leaving it behind either. If it was just faded I would have bought it. Oh and the reds had a sticker on it yet they felt the urge to mark on the blue?

Well your going to cringe when I tell you what I did to get this off. I used everything I could think of. I first just used water, soap and a towel. Not helpful. I used a cotton ball window cleaner. Nope. I then tried rubbing it off with spit and my shirt. So not helpful. I then saw nail polish remover next to the window cleaner. I used it. Very little. I was like well I rather see it faded in this area than that 2.99 mark on there for the rest of its life. Cause I already have one of those and I did not want another. So I used it. It took it right off. I am not going to recommend this. I am unsure of what will happen to your pattern or color. For me it just came off and no fading happened to my Pyrex.
See I already have one of these. I really don't want another.
I think it came off because the dish still had lots of color and was not faded like this dish was. There is no way to get off that 2.99 on the pink. I tried everything including the Magjic Eraser. I use this dish in the bathroom turned the other way so I don't have to see the number. I store my soap and goodies in there. What do you recommend on permanent marker? Do your stores do this to you?

a new collector

my name is taylor and i have a crafty/cooking/collecting blog called taylor-made news

i grew up seeing pyrex in my grandmother's kitchens and now that i am a "super-thrifter" i look for pieces everywhere i go! i recently hit what i lovingly refer to as the "pyrex jackpot"

i haven't been brave enough to cook in any of my pyrex yet, I just think it's too pretty to get messy (it's silly, i know). but right now i use mine to hold craft suppliesi just started collecting earlier this year and i always pick up turquoise, blue and green pieces. so far, i'm pretty proud of my pyrex shelf... and i can't wait to get even more!

i can't wait to share more of my great finds on this blog!
