my pyrex pals?

Teeny Tiny Pyrex

A while back I found out about miniature Pyrex dishes that re-ment was including in some of their sets. For those who don't know, re-ment is a company out of Japan that makes miniatures, mostly dishes and housewares. I was lucky enough to find a set of re-ment 'Pyrex' cinderella bowls, a fridgie, and a casserole dish on ebay. I love how detailed they are.

Earlier this week a friend of mine found a set of Barbie 'Pyrex' in her basement and immediately thought of me. They are sized slightly differently than the re-ment ones, but they go so well together!

Primary fridgie dishes! I no longer have my yellow primary fridgie so I made up a turquoise/red/yellow set for the photograph.

And primary mixing bowls.

I've seen some other Pyrex minis or toys around..some child sized yellow fridgies and mixing bowls, and some Verde dishes but haven't come across any in person. Has anyone seen any others?

An Email From Mom

Hello everyone,
I've been searching high and low for Pyrex for the past couple of months and have had no luck. It looks like my fortunes may be changing. Here's the email from Mom. Does anyone know the chip set she's talking about? I haven't even had time to check.
Lot's of Pyrex love,
Erin
P.S. Mom's well into her eighties, so she can get away with the "old ladies" comment - Erin's politically correct inner editor.

Hi Erin.
We accidently found a church sale in Thorold that was running Fri/Sat. Very rare! The first thing I noticed was a pretty Pyrex chip and dip set. We checked it for any damage and it appeared to be in new condition. We got it for a giveaway price for you. The old ladies running the sale had no idea what it was worth. It is that attractive clear aqua shade with a pattern on it in white. You will know the name of the pattern I'm sure. We'll get it to you asap.
I hope you have had an enjoyable trip to Kingston. I'm sure the trip home on
Wednesday wasn't a lot of fun with all the lightening and thunder going on.
Have a nice weekend
With love,
Mom

Three Pieces of Pyrex

I found another divided dish - that brings my total to eight and and I'm waiting for a traded one to arrive - but you can't really resist especially when it's a promotional one and it only cost $2.50 at the Salvation Army..

It's Royal Wheat, from 1960 and just in perfect shape!

Why are there so many little red fridgies around?  I had to buy it - I love fridgies - it was $1.99 at Value Village.

My daughter collects the 403 bowls, this size seems to be hard to find - this nice Shenandoah one is going her way.  I found it at a church basement sale - $2.00

I found a bowl at Value Village which is not Pyrex, I'd sure like to know what it is - come on over and see if you can help me identify it.

Everyone OK?

Just a quik post to make sure everyone that was anywhere near the path of "Irene" are doing ok? Wishing all the best!

Salad Bowl

I was sad when a trip to my very favourite antique store, which used to be a mecca of Pyrex, was cleaned out. Pyrex collecting has seemed to become much more popular lately, which is great because it means more people to talk to and friend over this colourful and fun addiction, but it does mean pieces are much more hard to find. I did come across this bowl, in nearly perfection condition, for $13. Not bad for antique store prices.

It's the Salad Bowl promotional pattern with the infamous 'fetus' right in the middle of the design. Do you see it? It's really a pear covered by a leaf, but it looks very much like a fetus or a baby sitting sideways with its arms outstretched. Love this teal colour!

Something I've been enjoying lately - harvesting garden goodies in pyrex dishes.

For some reason everything looks better in Pyrex!

Mini Mania!

Please allow me to take a moment to sing the praises of the Pyrex mini fridgie!

Why do I adore the mini so much? Well--As I blog about my adventures in Retro dieting, I find it very difficult to use modern day bowls and casseroles when I assemble my low-calorie gastronomic creations... Modern day bowls are just too BIG!

The Pyrex mini fridgie is the perfect portion control tool for my teeny-tiny diet dishes from the 1970's. Since all of my Retro Weight Watcher recipes seem to be 6 oz or less, the mini fridgie contains them all so well.

I am always on the lookout for minis. Here's what I have so far...

Take a look at this proud Pyrex mini which I used for a "Mocked Chopped Liver" recipe...
