Pyrex For All Creatures Great And Small

This morning, I was stunned to discover what looked to be a budgie in amongst the sparrows at our birdfeeder. I guess this was the one that got away.

Long story short: I was able to catch the beautiful bird and she/he is safe in a gerbil cage until we can take it to animal services tomorrow. I hope it finds a good home. Oh yeah, look at how handy my boring, but always practical heavy Pyrex custard dishes are. They fit perfectly into the small opening in the cage and the little bird is happy perching on Pyrex.
Life is sweet today.

Pyrex Polka Dot bowls

Hi there!  I'm Sharon and my blog is icantotallymakethat where ideally I'm supposed to post things I make/craft/create but due to my lack of craftiness and motivation it ends up being more about things I love such as my puppies, cooking/baking, home decor, traveling, antique/thrift store hunting and of course, vintage goodies.  I found The Pyrex Collective through Thrifted Treasure and am happy to be part of the group!

I recently was given a set of polka dot mixing bowls by a dear friend and wanted to show them off here.  You can check out my original post here.

Now I'm excited to go home and take pictures of every Pyrex piece I own! (though I probably should do it a little at a time so my husband does not become too suspicious about my addiction)

*edited to note: I am so sorry but these are by Fire King instead of Pyrex.  I am truly mortified!!!  Now I need to read up on the differences between Pyrex and Fire King!*

A Pyrex game....

Howdy folks, I'm Retro Keith over at Livin' in the past . Below is some of the Pyrex I have. Lets play a little game..... if you look in the picture, there are two pieces that are NOT Pyrex/Corelle (click on the picture to expand). Which ones are they? How good are you at finding Pyrex's step-sister, Fireking? Don't get me wrong, I love Fireking. Yep, I'm a guy that collects Pyrex and Fireking. Happy thrifting! Stop on over to my blog and join my retro thrifting shinanigans!!

The Missing Link

I ran across these Pyrex baby bottles in a thrift store, today. Thinking of this blog, I reached for my camera to secure photo documentation, only to find that I left it home.

So, I picked up 4 of the 8 on the shelf and brought them home to share with my fellow lovers of all things Pyrex. They are really fun to look at and handle and are in excellent condition. As she was cashing me out, the cashier took a good look at me and said "I always wondered who would buy these; they're the same bottles I used to feed my babies over 30 years ago."

Perhaps, some of us have been Pyrex lovers since birth? I can just picture it. Itty bitty pyrex collectors in training, running our tiny, infant fingers up & down the word PYREX as we were being nourished.

The Science of Pyrex

I found this tiny Pyrex Boiling Flask at Goodwill By The Pound last summer. Amazingly enough, it survived the original Goodwill outlet before being dumped at GBTP, where goods are hurled into these huge wagons and wheeled out for more man-handling by the crazy deal hunters. I'm not even sure how much the flask cost as it was put on a scale with the other things I bought. Whatever the cost was, it was less than a cup of coffee at Tim Hortons. At the time, I had no idea that Pyrex manufactured scientific equipment. Does anyone else out there in Pyrex-loving land have Pyrex flasks or beakers?

The Pyrex Series

Pyrex!, originally uploaded by jenib320.
This past spring I did a series of Pyrex posts on my personal blog. Each week I'd post about topics ranging from different types and sizes to patterns, cleaning tips, and care. I just reorganized the series making it easier to access and thought that you all might be interested in seeing it! :)

Shining Pyrex - Thrifting in the Dark

The hubs and I went thrifting today, and it was kind of late by the time we got to the last stop. They actually turned the lights out on us while we were in this humongous 3-story antique mall, where we remarked to each other it wouldn't be the worst place to get lost and have to spend the night. So we kept wandering a bit, seeing what we could see with what little light drifted in through a window or door here and there.

I had just hit my favorite seller's booth when the manager appeared. He sighed and gave us a look that said, "What are you still doing here?"

He quickly herded us through the maze of booths to the cash register, where I paid for the piece of Pyrex I had just picked up before being busted but hadn't had much time or light to inspect yet.

I think it was a good buy.

It's a 2-1/2 quart Cinderella bowl in a pattern I hadn't seen before. A quick Google search indicates the pattern is called Embroidery and it may have been a 1958 promotional item (what exactly does that mean?). Does anyone have any other info on it?

I sure love the color.
