Wow--it's 50 years old but brand new to me! I was thrilled to find this 1960 promotional salad bowl at VV for $4.99, and in perfect shape, I might add. The only thing missing is the plastic salad tongs but at that price, I was very happy to march right to the till and take it home! The color is wonderful too--not a true green but more of a teal green so quite ahead of its time in 1960. We didn't even know what teal was then! Apparently Pyrex only named this "salad bowl"but the pattern is also known as "fruit salad" and there are even hidden shapes in the fruit--someone figured this out after thoughtfully gazing at their pyrex salad bowl for hours, I think. Anyway, I have been gazing at it since I got home and am so happy that someone looked after it so well for half a century before I latched onto it!
What a wonderful find! Love the color and pattern on this. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that is a great one! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteIf you know there are other pieces like the tongs, make sure to check other sections of VV. My daughter bought a mixer to bring to college and it had no beaters, but we found the beaters sold separately (?!?).
I also found a Cosmopolitan casserole without the lid, and found the lid elsewhere when I went back two weeks later. You just never know.
Stupendous score. This bowl is gorgeous. And I can't believe the price - even by VV standards. I pray that they'll never cotton on to just how collectible some of these pieces are.

Your lucky day - for sure!!!!
ReplyDeleteWho cares about the tongs (don't throw rocks at me, fellow Collectors!) - this is a wonderful bowl by itself!
