Looks Like a Christmas Design to Me!

A few posts back I told you about a Royal Wheat promotional piece that I had found at a local thrift store. In researching that piece, I discovered that I had a couple of other Pyrex promotional items. So while you are taking down your holiday decorations and storing them away for next year, I thought I would share one of those pieces with you since it looks like a Christmas design to me.

Barbara Mauzy’s book lists this as an unknown pattern, but PyreXFiles identifies it as a 404, 4-quart nesting bowl in the Golden Leaf pattern, a 1961 promotional. I found this at an estate sale last summer and it just screamed Christmas to me….still does! I was surprised that its name did not reflect a holiday theme and was also surprised to see it described as a nesting bowl. Does that mean that there are 3 matching bowls in smaller sizes? Do YOU know?

Soon I’ll let you know about the other promotional piece I found......think aqua!

Until then…..

Tuesday Treasures

2 wonderful finds today.

I got this nice looking Anchor Hocking, 8c measuring cup for $4 and this beautiful, olive green, 2 1/2QT Pyrex roasting pan $2.

Went to GW after and found the same measuring cup in worse shape for $6, I laughed and walked away.

You can see other treasures along with randomness @ http://starvnrtist.blogspot.com

Happy Junking!

Pinch Me

Have you ever had a dream in which someone approaches you out of the blue and presents you with a bag full of Pyrex? Me too. This morning, after running the gauntlet to get to work (dropping son off at daycare, missing bus, having to take an extra long way to get to work to avoid a $20 cab ride and barely making it in before the school bell rang), an angel of Pyrex mercy came strolling down the school hallway and did just that.

It was Mary Lou, our most esteemed Office Administrator. She is the heart and soul of our school and I love her dearly. She makes jewelry and is the go-to person on staff if you need information on just about anything. She reads a lot and loves an off-colour laugh - so she's tops in my books.

Mary Lou remembered that I have Pyrexia, so when she cleaned out her mother's old Pyrex, she thought of me.
Strike the harp and join the chorus - my first ever fridgies!!!! I thought I'd have to be content lusting after everyone else's fridgies and now I have my own. Thank you Mary Lou!
How do I love thee, Spring Blossom? Let me count the ways. Seriously, I spent a few minutes fondling these little fridgies after I got home when nobody was looking. They fit in your hand like a little purse, or a dwarf bunny. So good. I know, it's weird.
And here they are together - one happy, fridgie Pyrex family. I'm still pinching myself and I'm not sure how I'll ever pay Mary Lou back. I guess I'm just going to have to fly Johnny Depp to Toronto and have him anoint her feet with Johnny oil.
And here's my Spring Blossom family with the lidless loaf dish, recently thrifted at Goodwill for a $1.99. Look at this crazy pile of Pyrex. Please excuse our unfinished kitchen. If I had a dime for each time those wires have almost gauged out my eyeballs. I don't care anymore. I've got fridgies. Have I mentioned how happy I am?

I hope this magic moment will bring frosted lucky Pyrex charm to you all in 2011.
Erin, the happy fridgie owner.

My Christmas Pyrex

Happy New Year to everyone! Well, I am finally getting around to posting the Pyrex I received for Christmas. It's been so much fun seeing what everyone else received, so I finally got my butt in gear and took some photos. First of all, the Snowflake Blue piece that my daughter gave me. I was really shocked to receive Pyrex from her since I know that antiquing and thrifting isn't her "thing."

The next pieces are from my son who is definitely on the Pyrex bandwagon, and continues to scope out and bring me Pyrex when I least expect it.

Even my dear old hubby managed to get me something related to Pyrex, which I might add, I've been wanting for quite a while!!

So, I had a very Merry Pyrex Christmas, and from the looks of all the posts, most of y'all did too!! My son just came by the house a little while ago, and brought me some more Pyrex!! I'll post the pics real soon!

English Pyrex

Found this recently at a Salvation Army Thrift Shop here in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

It was covered in grease and took a while to get it off! Still didn't get it all.

I liked the Iris-floral .....very delicate blue flowers. I couldn't find the name of the design in my 'book'. maybe you know what it is?

Happy New Year everyone!

New Year, Old Stuff - A Giveaway

Happy New Year!!

To celebrate the new year I am having my first ever giveaway.

To find out what else is included, hop on over to my blog Tall Glass of Water and check it out.

Your Blogs

Vintage Pyrex: a sunny solution to the winter blahs. Now if only I could find some.

Hello there and Happy New Year!

I've been trying to go through author profiles to collect blog addresses from Pyrex Collective members for the "Author's Blogs" link on the right. I recently added several blogs to the list. Some members have several different blogs, while others don't have a personal blog, so there's a good chance I haven't tracked all blogs down. Please let me know if I've missed your blog or if I've linked the wrong one. I once accidentally published a post about my fondness for dark beer on my classroom blog, so I'm all about trying to get it right.

Cheers to another year of exciting Pyrex finds!
Erin
