what am i?

these four bowls (and their pink and black friends in the background)
came to me tonight via the lovely town of
santa rosa.

they are marked 1416.....any thoughts as to what they are
and what the pattern is called,
my pyrex pals?

Teeny Tiny Pyrex

A while back I found out about miniature Pyrex dishes that re-ment was including in some of their sets. For those who don't know, re-ment is a company out of Japan that makes miniatures, mostly dishes and housewares. I was lucky enough to find a set of re-ment 'Pyrex' cinderella bowls, a fridgie, and a casserole dish on ebay. I love how detailed they are.

Earlier this week a friend of mine found a set of Barbie 'Pyrex' in her basement and immediately thought of me. They are sized slightly differently than the re-ment ones, but they go so well together!

Primary fridgie dishes! I no longer have my yellow primary fridgie so I made up a turquoise/red/yellow set for the photograph.

And primary mixing bowls.

I've seen some other Pyrex minis or toys around..some child sized yellow fridgies and mixing bowls, and some Verde dishes but haven't come across any in person. Has anyone seen any others?

An Email From Mom

Hello everyone,
I've been searching high and low for Pyrex for the past couple of months and have had no luck. It looks like my fortunes may be changing. Here's the email from Mom. Does anyone know the chip set she's talking about? I haven't even had time to check.
Lot's of Pyrex love,
Erin
P.S. Mom's well into her eighties, so she can get away with the "old ladies" comment - Erin's politically correct inner editor.

Hi Erin.
We accidently found a church sale in Thorold that was running Fri/Sat. Very rare! The first thing I noticed was a pretty Pyrex chip and dip set. We checked it for any damage and it appeared to be in new condition. We got it for a giveaway price for you. The old ladies running the sale had no idea what it was worth. It is that attractive clear aqua shade with a pattern on it in white. You will know the name of the pattern I'm sure. We'll get it to you asap.
I hope you have had an enjoyable trip to Kingston. I'm sure the trip home on
Wednesday wasn't a lot of fun with all the lightening and thunder going on.
Have a nice weekend
With love,
Mom

Three Pieces of Pyrex

I found another divided dish - that brings my total to eight and and I'm waiting for a traded one to arrive - but you can't really resist especially when it's a promotional one and it only cost $2.50 at the Salvation Army..

It's Royal Wheat, from 1960 and just in perfect shape!

Why are there so many little red fridgies around?  I had to buy it - I love fridgies - it was $1.99 at Value Village.

My daughter collects the 403 bowls, this size seems to be hard to find - this nice Shenandoah one is going her way.  I found it at a church basement sale - $2.00

I found a bowl at Value Village which is not Pyrex, I'd sure like to know what it is - come on over and see if you can help me identify it.

Everyone OK?

Just a quik post to make sure everyone that was anywhere near the path of "Irene" are doing ok? Wishing all the best!

Salad Bowl

I was sad when a trip to my very favourite antique store, which used to be a mecca of Pyrex, was cleaned out. Pyrex collecting has seemed to become much more popular lately, which is great because it means more people to talk to and friend over this colourful and fun addiction, but it does mean pieces are much more hard to find. I did come across this bowl, in nearly perfection condition, for $13. Not bad for antique store prices.

It's the Salad Bowl promotional pattern with the infamous 'fetus' right in the middle of the design. Do you see it? It's really a pear covered by a leaf, but it looks very much like a fetus or a baby sitting sideways with its arms outstretched. Love this teal colour!

Something I've been enjoying lately - harvesting garden goodies in pyrex dishes.

For some reason everything looks better in Pyrex!

Mini Mania!

Please allow me to take a moment to sing the praises of the Pyrex mini fridgie!

Why do I adore the mini so much? Well--As I blog about my adventures in Retro dieting, I find it very difficult to use modern day bowls and casseroles when I assemble my low-calorie gastronomic creations... Modern day bowls are just too BIG!

The Pyrex mini fridgie is the perfect portion control tool for my teeny-tiny diet dishes from the 1970's. Since all of my Retro Weight Watcher recipes seem to be 6 oz or less, the mini fridgie contains them all so well.

I am always on the lookout for minis. Here's what I have so far...

Take a look at this proud Pyrex mini which I used for a "Mocked Chopped Liver" recipe...

For the recipe above and more retro dieting fun, stop by and see me at the 1972 Retro Weight Watchers Experiment. Bring your own fridgie!

Unusual pieces

The Pyrex hunting --and receiving-- has been good lately. First of all, I received a belated Mother's Day gift when I visited Libby in Colorado, and I don't blame her for not wanting to mail this:

The Golden Grapes Cinderella chip and dip set from 1961!!! I SO love that delphite blue color inside. Perfect condition. Also in Colorado, I found these little ramekins or au gratin dishes:

I love red, so I just had to pick these up for $2 each. The bottoms say "Pyrex brand Tableware by Corning." A newer item.

Back in Missouri, I grabbed this item for just $11 at my local antique mall:

This is the Butterfly Gold 4-quart round casserole, with lid. Both are marked #664 and they look completely unused. This thing is BIG! I haven't seen the flat lip on any other item. Finally, try to figure out what the next item is before you scroll down to get the answer:

As you can see, it's about 5 1/2 inches long and looks like blown glass on the inside, making it weighted toward one side. It is clearly labeled PYREX / T.M. REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. / MADE IN U.S.A. and has a metal piece on the end--not a cap; there is a hole in it.

My family members made guesses about this item's function: an old IV bottle? Wine-making equipment? A baby bottle?

Fortunately, the reverse side of the price tag told me what it is: a float for a gravity-feed toilet tank. Yep, that's what it looks like, all right--a toilet tank float! This item is really old, and must have been an early attempt at making Pyrex a commercial product with applications beyond railroad lamps. I bought it, of course, and I have NO idea how I'm going to display it.

New Pyrex!

Loving my new additions to my collections! Especially the mint #443 Butterprint! It's such an amazing pattern.

Birthday Party Pyrex

My little guy turned 8 yesterday. We served his cupcakes in the Horizon Blue divided casserole, which is his favorite of all my divided casseroles. It did not go unnoticed. Both my kids are pretty Pyrex savvy :) They've both already put dibs on certain pieces that the think they're taking with them when they leave home. As if!

Beauty for trade!

Well I'm still rockin' the trades and so far it has been great!

Over the weekend I finally had time to take a pic of this sweety.....

Well it is for trade! Yep this is a Pyrex children's Circus plate.

Here a close-up.

Sorry for the pic quality.
The condition is mintish, no dings or scratches.

And stop by my blog to see what I got myself for my B-Day!

it's snowing in august!

at least it is at my house... because i have completed my snowflake garland mixing bowl set!!

it kind of feels like reuniting old friends. and don't they just look SO cute together?!

the only downside? finding a place on "the shelf" for them. haha

I fiiiinally found two vintage Pyrex pieces to share.  It's like a Pyrex desert around here.

Darn This Addiction!

Meet my eleven new finds!  Most of them are promotional pieces - my absolute favorite thing to collect.

Can anyone identify the 8 inch square baking dish?  It has a single gold line all the way around it.  I've never seen this before.  The two round 2 quart casseroles are a 1960 Holiday (the red one) and a Golden Tulip from 1959.

The 1.5 quart casserole on top is Empire Scroll (Vine) and I really love the 2.5 quart Charcoal Snowflake.  I have wanted this piece for a long time!

Top: a yellow Desert Dawn pie plate, a 2.5 quart black and white casserole which I do not know the name for.  However, it is very similar to the 2.5 quart Gourmet promotional casserole.  This piece had its original stand.  I have been wanting this piece for a long time, and finally a good deal came my way on eBay.  It has it's original lid and cradle.  The best part about this piece is that it is Delphite (blue) Pyrex, which has been painted white on the outside and then had the gold decoration painted on.

But wait, there's more!  Once again, top to bottom:  a 1959 Compass promotional divided server, a Musical Staff promotional baker (not in the best shape) and lastly, a Spring 1958 promotional piece - Rooster Black 2 quart baking dish with a cork handled cradle.

Is there rehab for Pyrex Addicts?  I think I may need it.

Woodland on a Wooden Stump

These 474's are great for mixing and I'm beginning to like this Woodland pattern more all the time - I have one other casserole in this set and a set of three bowls - the colors are really sharp!  I found this the other day at VV for $3.99 - no lid though.

I also found a few pieces of Corelle Spring Blossom too - someone must have been cleaning out, but I still left some behind - those pieces and some other neat finds are on my blog

Pyrex I have been keeping from you!

I got to play this weekend.
My friend came over and we played dressed up.
She wanted to see my Pyrex collection.
She saw it.
She was impressed.
Yipee!

I have more photos on my blog here.

It was a slow summer for Pyrex finds here.
I did manage to find these pieces.

When I last talked with you. I had finally found my blue bowl.
I completed my first Primary Stacking set.
The whole reason why I got hooked on Pyrex.
The very next day. I found these two bowls.
2 Blue. WOW.

So then I was able to complete another set.

But then I found another. What?
I told you it was summer of the blue bowls.
I have been searching for years.
Locally only. Never found. Then wow. Jackpot.
A whole mess of them were found.

I stalked this bowl till it was 50% off
day the expensive thrift store.
Shocked it was still there.
Happy the sheets were too.
I made the sheet on the left into a dress.

I found this big old red bowl.
4 Quart.
It is part of the Friendship Collection.
Which is btw calling my name
every night I get into bed.
I find myself stalking displays on
Pinterest.

I found these bowls but did not buy them.
Where and when and what collection are these?
Each one was $9 bucks.

I about fainted with this find. $9.00

haha Blue bowl again.

The red below and this yellow are 2.5 quart sizes.

Ok I have all versions of this pattern. I think I am done with mugs.
No more. Unless its aqua or pink. Or pretty who am I kidding?

Snowflake Aqua how I love thee.

I also stalked these for 50% off day.
I like it when they are there
saying take me home. HALF OFF.
Cause the store is insane
with its prices.

I also found this piece but didn't purchase it.
It was $40 bucks in an antique store.
I am just so thrifty.
But I have never seen it.
Sometimes I splurge on pieces.
I haven't had panic feelings without it. So I think
I am ok with not getting it.
I am not sure why I have to own at least one of everything.
But that is how I feel. So I keep jumping the fence.
