Hello fellow Pyrex-maniacs!  I recently came across two new-to-me pyrex finds to add to my growing collection.  The Woodland 2.5l casserole dish I brought a few weekends ago at the local markets here in Cairns, which I paid a little too much for, but I really needed a casserole dish this size.  The little green Gooseberry dish I scored yesterday at the op-shop for $1.  It will come in handy and is the same size as my lime green Spring Blossom.  Both were found with no lids, but they are easy enough to come by.

BIG trade

i recently shipped out a HUGE box of woodland dishes to Studio Reb

and in return she sent me all kinds of new colonial mist to add to my shelves.

and as luck would have it... while i was waiting for the shipment to arrive, i found a twin bowl for $2 at a thrift store.

i've never seen a clear bowl with a pattern on it. does anyone know if there are other patterns that come like this?

so for anyone who is going through a dry spell in the hunting department, trades are always a great way to add to your stash.

Addictions......

Since I don't have friends that feed my Pyrex addiction like Amy C. does, I have to feed it myself!! And boy, do I feed it!! Too much so most of the time! Anyway, this is what I fed my addiction with this past weekend thrifting and antiquing.

Sometimes Life Will Tell You Where to Search.

I am still at the point in my collecting (a year or so in)
where I am discovering my first pieces of certain patterns.

I was lucky enough to start out my collecting days with some verrrrrry good finds (flawless yellow daisy casserole dishes with lids were some of my first thrifting and antiquing finds, for example).
I can say I was spoiled by the Pyrex gods early on.

Then, about a year in, and about ten to twelve pieces in, I seemed to have corned the local market, so to speak.  I frequent the same spots in my town, as well as in the DC area when I am home visiting.
And I kept on coming back to the same general patterns and pieces.
While they are cute, I'd rather build up my smaller collection with a few pieces of each pattern right now, rather than completing sets. I like the look of mismatched vintage items, and plans to store my collection in open kitchen shelving in my home one day.


So it was to my delight when I came across alllllll sorts of new patterns at the antique mall in South Charleston, West Virginia.  During a visit to look at places there with my boyfriend, I made my first pink daisy find that I posted about a few days ago.

I also found these three Woodland Nesting Bowls.
Being my first encounter with Woodland print, I happily picked them up.
And took some cute pics with them too :)

Fridgies!

Since I starting collecting Pyrex about a year ago, I noticed that fridgies seem to be hard to find here in the Twin Cities. Fridgies in good condition are even rarer. This past few weeks, luck has been on my side.

My first set (minus the largest fridgie) I found together. They were pushed to the back of the shelf near the bottom. I had been talking to another shopper (the two fiesta sets in my cart caught her eye) and wasn't really paying attention to what was on the shelf until another shopper moved a couple of ... well, something. I don't remember. I just remember seeing the pyrex. And diving for it.

Okay, so I didn't dive for it. That's what I did in my mind. Luckily, I was able to stop myself before I did that. Whew!

When I had a chance, I pushed a few more items aside and pulled out a three piece set of Spring Blossom. It looks like it is unused. Beautiful!

My first pieces of pyrex were a set of Spring Blossom cinderella bowls. (I had bought them because my mom had a set of them when I was growing up. And would never let me use them.)

I have slowly been collecting other Spring Blossom pieces as I find them in thrift stores.

The two smaller ones cost $2 each and the larger one cost $3. Not bad.

About a week later, at different store, I found this one in the Woodland pattern. Again, it was pushed to the back of the shelf with other items hiding it. After a quick inspection, it was paid for and on it's way home with me. It was in excellent condition, just like the ones above.

Not a huge fan of this pattern (like many of you), but it's growing on me. As I mentioned before, fridgies seem to be hard to find here in the TC, so I was feeling lucky to find one even if it wasn't in a pattern I collect.

This one cost me $4.

Since they seem to be hard to find, you can imagine my surprise when I found this blue fridgie with an older lid last night! I hesitated for a minute before I decided to purchase it. Glad I decided to buy it as I'm sure it would have been gone by the time I went back.

Yes, it was a little more than I am usually willing to pay at a thrift store, but it was in great shape with only one small chip in the paint. And I haven't seen a blue fridgie that was in such good condition before.

This one set me back $8.00.

not a complimentary pattern to woodland?

it doesn't say pyrex anywhere on it... but i figured it matched, so why not buy the whole set? (and for $10 no less)and then as my luck would have it... the very next weekend i saw the remaining plates at another store (for less than $5)

now, did i make a big mistake in my pyrex-look-a-like haze? or was this a good find?

Usually I leave here Pyrex jealous and the urge to thrift.

The Pyrex Goddess Was Smiling on Me Today ...

... Unfortunately, she chose to bless me with some patterns that aren't my absolute favorites, but since this was thrifting I (mostly) chose not to ignore her bounty.

The Royal Wheat promotional casserole was found at our closest Goodwill, and it wasn't there yesterday.  I was really happy to find it and am already imagining it on the Thanksgiving table.  But other than that, no Pyrex.

So we piled into the car and tried a neighboring Goodwill where clearly someone had recently cleaned out a kitchen.  We found the 401, 402, and 403 mixing bowls in Forest Fancies and a 404 in Old Orchard (it took some sleuthing to figure that one out).

I was happy to find this 441 in Butterfly Gold I.  I actually have a lot of Butterfly Gold and the white pieces are my favorites.

I first started collecting fridgies for food storage, but I find that I am more likely to reach for a round bake/serve/store or Cinderella casserole.  I found this Woodland 474 (I had a lid at home) and this tannish orange 472 (also my lid).  (Anyone know what it is?  It isn't as gold as the Daisy casseroles.)

This Homestead 401 snuck home with us as well, although we left a 402 in the same pattern at the store.  I've decided that I'll pick up 401s in any color/pattern; it's an easy/cheap/small way to collect a lot of different patterns.  I'd love to do the same with 471s but those are hard to find.

I've started being able to resist buying Pyrex that I don't adore, at least on days that I am broke strong.  But when something like that Old Orchard 404 is $3 I'm hesitant to leave it.  I'm starting to think that we need to have a Southern California Pyrex Collective Meetup and Swap!
