Only a few days into our vacation (a cross between deluxe camping and rustic cottaging) I realized how much my Pyrex had become part of my daily habits. Mixing, fixing, cooking, storing, serving, eating...I think I have the right Pyrex piece for every need.
Our mish mash collection of plastic and metal bowls and containers in the trailer drove me up the wall. Nothing stacked or nested, pieces were warped, there were bowls without lids and lids without bows. And did you know its impossible to cover a plastic bowl with plastic wrap? And you can't put stainless steel in the microwave. My list of pet peeves was growing rapidly.
And I've come to the conclusion that I no longer like the feel of plastic. I don't like to cook with it or eat out of it I've become a plastic snob!
I was so happy to come home to my Pyrex. And my pillow. And some Butterprint that came in the mail from my first Pyrex purchase on Ebay!
I wish I had more photos to share...my collection has grown over the summer! But my good camera is in the boat and the boat is in the garage and the garage is 4 hours away...
So here is a poorly lit shot of my entire Butterprint collection, plus some sentimental Pyrex and Corningware.
I know how you feel - you sure do miss using it when you're away. Nice Butterprint display!
ReplyDeleteI have accumulated several pieces over the last 40 plus years. Some of it, I got for wedding gifts in 1966. I still have several of those pieces. Some I have collected at yard sales and auctions. And not just Pyrex, I love dishes.I have so many, it's ridiculous, but one day, they may be worth something to the grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteCan you really put Pyrex in the microwave? I've always been too scared to try.
ReplyDeleteI put it in the microwave all the time. Never straight out of the freezer, but I do microwave leftovers from the fridge.
ReplyDelete...and all the newer colorware and clear pieces say 'for oven and microwave' on the bottom.
ReplyDeleteOoo! I LIKE butterprint! I'm going to learn so much from you Pyrex girls! ♥
ReplyDeleteI use my Pyrex daily and love it. I'm with you on becoming a plastic snob. If you love Butterprint I'm planning on selling/trading a set of casseroles soon are you interested?
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way. I try to never use plastic anymore. I don't trust its safety (particularly the old stuff), and why would you need it when there's so much beautiful pyrex out there?
