Big Red

Last year, a funky East Yorker and soon-to-be former Pyrex collector sold me these candy apple red bowls. Does anyone know anything about them? I love the shape. You don't see them too often at thrift stores. Is there a large size or a size in between the two I have?

The yard sale lady also sold me this little bowl, which I believe is Blue Horizon. Correct me if I'm wrong. I asked her if she would miss her Pyrex. She told me that she had to do some major decluttering, but I heard a little sigh as she put the bowls into a bag for me. They went to a good home.

  1. Erin they are so pretty, all of them. I love the red bowls! I don't know anything about them but someone will. Love the blue and white pattern. I guess my day will come when I have to sell some of my collections. I will do so with a heavy heart! I just hope they find a good home!

  2. I believe those square ones are a chip and dip set. Looks like it's missing the piece of metal that holds the small bowl above the big bowl.

If you search eBay you'll find a few sets.

  4. This is not a chips and dip set but a Hostess Covered Casserole set and comes with small bowls. I have it too. The large dish has a lid.

  5. I can't read the sizes on the bottoms of yours, but I've got a similar red bowl and mine says it's a 2-1/2 quart size. I love that red!

  7. The lids are really hard to find because the hostesses would break them easily!

There are 2 sizes of small bowls: a 7oz and a 12 oz.

  9. I was at an estate sale where the woman was an extreme hoarder - like on the shows. There were two full sets of these one in red one in yellow. I totally wanted a set but the estate sale people wanted $50 a set. Now maybe it was totally worth it but that house was as bad as any on the tv shows and I was fighting freaking spiders at that sale... literally I had to clean them from my car after.

So I would be damned if I was going to be paying retail which is what they were trying to charge for a lot.

    End of rant.
