Dear Pyrex Collective,

portland.pyrex.three

Can we talk about ugly Pyrex?  If you believe there is such a thing?!  Because this pattern, Old Orchard, takes the cake in the uglies department for me.  What about you - have you ever gone thrifting and the only thing that turns up are the uglies? It's almost like these patterns exist out of spite!  :)

  1. although i love pyrex, i do agree there are some uglies out there.. i think Autumn Harvest is nothing great, even though i own some. My favs are the old simple patterns.

  2. Old Orchard is certainly special. It was made in the 70's and brown was a big hit back then. I personnaly don't like the brown and beige patterns. Forest Fancies takes the cake in my book!EEEWWW!

  6. I picked up an ugly myself recently, a brown one too, felt sorry for it sitting there on the shelf unloved and unbought :-)

  7. There is still something compelling about this piece. Maybe I'm just hungry. Butterscotch pudding, anyone? How about caramel sauce?

  8. i wonder if in 30 years the 'uglies' will be so vintage that they will be uber popular.

  9. Here's a positive spin on Autumn Harvest. I have the smallest sized AH mixing bowl. Because it's kinda butt ugly, I don't mind using it - A LOT. Because of its small size, it's great for my son to eat snacks out of and I don't have to run around worrying that he's going to drop it.
I still think that there's no such thing as bad Pyrex. It's all useful. Some is prettier than others. That's for sure.

  10. Lately it seems like all I find while thrifting are the uglies! No more Early American please--blech. I guess the original owners thought they were ugly too, and that's why they ended up donated to the thrift store in the first place!

  11. My phone rang as I finished writing my comment. It should read: Some pieces are prettier than others.

  12. I personally am of the opinion that there is no such thing as ugly Pyrex. But I'm weird that way, I guess. It's all beautiful in my eyes.

  13. Heehee, reminds me of my childhood kitchen of the 70's. Brown, tan, gold, ick. We even had this ugly patterned carpet...yes I said carpet, in the kitchen. It was really bad. I guess at the time it was uber "hip". LOL. personally, I've never been a fan of brown anything. It's the color of poop. Hahaha

  14. I just realized I mixed up Old Orchard with Autumn Harvest. I actually think Autumn Harvest is gorgeous. It's the Old Orchard that's a big rough 'n ready. Still, it has its place in the Pyrex universe.

  15. I stumbled on this site. I have lots of old pyrex in my cupboard that I'd be happy to sell. From the picture on your site, I have the small white bowl with the red birds, the 4 piece coloured mixing bowl set, the yellowish 1 pt with the side handles, lots of clear ones. I wouldn't know old from new.

  16. I found the small bowl at Value Village this week, it was in half decent shape, but I collect what I like, and like you, this pattern irks me, so I passed!

  17. Old Orchard is not pretty - not at all - I've seen it and left it right on the shelf - but, I'm sure there are fans of it out there somewhere....
