Lid lifter, too!

Yesterday I felt that my favorite antique haunts were calling me. What a lucky day! I found a full-size quilt and three crib quilts (all hand quilted) plus a mink stole, all for a total of $150 at one mall. I posted pictures of the quilts on my blog, Quilt Stories. At the next  mall, a Pyrex score for $22!  I found a beautiful pale yellow/gold leaf casserole with a two-burner stand AND a lid lifter. I've never seen the pattern before, and I've sure never seen a lid lifter. Pyrexfiles.com  calls it "Golden Casserole." It is identified as a 1959 promotional item. Drool away.

  2. Wow, great find.
I think I would have forked out the big bucks too. There's an antiques mall that we've been to in Cambridge, ON before I started collecting Pyrex. Now I'm dying to go back with my Pyrex radar switched on.

  3. Antique malls can be way overpriced on the Pyrex. I've recently seen sets of primary-color bowls for $70 to $90--and they were in terrible shape. But you can also find reasonable prices--you never know. I like the kind of mall with a frequent turnover of items, where the booths are always changing. If stuff sits there forever and ever, you know it's overpriced.

  4. I don't' think that was too high at all for a great piece like that, and just think of the age of it too! You can date it exactly, which is very nice. It just stands the test of time, that is for sure.

  5. Great find! I have not seen the lid lifter in any ads, I wonder if it goes with a different set? Here is one from my archives, a 1959 ad that shows your Golden Casserole:

  6. Linda--The lid lifter does look different from the one in your ad. Maybe they were sold separately.
