Paging through the new May 2011 issue of Country Living while eating dinner this evening, I almost dropped my fork when I got to page 51!
Followed by two more pages on the subject of our beloved Pyrex.
Guess I had my eye candy before dessert!
oh no! Our secret's out! lol no, but seriously, am I going to have more competition in the thrift stores now? And I hope prices don't get steeper. Boo.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly!
ReplyDeleteGlad for the gorgeous photos but like the others I hoe the thrift store prices don't go any higher then they already are! Can't wait to get my copy of the magazine.
ReplyDeleteUGH if you listen close enough you can hear the prices of this stuf going through the roof! Glad that its back "In" I guess (although I never really considered it out).
ReplyDeleteI'm freaking out guys. Tell me it will be ok. I still have so much pyrex to buy and so little money to buy it with =(. I need a turquoise snowflake rectangular dish with the lid to gift to my dad so that he can reminisce about being a child in his mother's home!
ReplyDeleteOh geez! This is not good. Not good at ALL! I'm already on an independent crafter's budget and now they're taking away the only cheap thrill I get these days! Argh.
ReplyDeleteThat is every bit as lovely as the spread they did in the iPad Martha Stewart Living a couple of months back. I must buy it!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this issue! The red/gold Friendship pattern just makes me happy:@)
ReplyDeleteIt will be ok. Even though there is a lot more pyrex I want to buy more competition just means I will treasure each piece even more.
ReplyDeleteNot good news at all! :( Unless you are selling...
ReplyDeleteBut why would you do that????!
ReplyDeleteI love to see it displayed so well in a magazine, but I also agree this scares me a little! Same thing with Martha Stewart Living, always giving people ideas and raising prices
ReplyDeleteThat pisses me off soooo much! I'm seeing red for sure! Every time one of those well meaning magazines features Pyrex, the prices go through the roof!
ReplyDeleteThe Blue New Dots bowl is not worth 60$. Are they MAD?
The positive side? A lot of people will want to sell their Pyrex, we might get good deals, but we need to be patient!
*grumble grumble*
ReplyDeleteDamn!
ReplyDeletethere goes the neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteOH NOOOOOOOOOO! Gorgeous photos though. And let's just see it as confirmation that we were all way ahead of the trend ;-)
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't they consult one of us for some "colour" commentary? I see both sides of this. When I wrote the story for the Star back in the fall, I was worried that it could do more harm for collectors than good. If I've caused any Pyrex-related problems in the greater Toronto area, please forgive me. I do believe that yesterday's news becomes fish wrap (or bird cage liner) pretty fast and apart from savvy antique dealers who read these magazines, I don't think collectors will feel a big pinch at the thrift stores. Prices are consistently inconsistent and as consumers we can vote with our debit cards. In the meanwhile, the article did look wonderful and I'll be buying it later today I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI love all the fire and passion in the comments. Are we turning into a cult? LOL
Erin Toronto Yardsaler
Maybe they could do an article about collecting exercising equipment.....yes I think this is becoming cultish!
ReplyDeleteJust bought my May issue of CL, and was thumbing through it, and saw the article on Pyrex. Silly me scanned the pages to post on here never dreaming that someone else already had!! LOL :) Yeah, it scares me too. I'm so afraid that this will jack the prices up even higher. And the values that CL says they are worth. We're in trouble! I definitely think we are turning into a cult.......roflol...
ReplyDeleteA "cult?"
ReplyDelete"turning into?"
Babe, I think we crossed that line long, long ago :-D And that's ok by me.
I don't think one article will turn everyone into collectors, just like I don't think TLC's Extreme Couponing is going to turn everyone into couponers. (now THAT is a cult. ;) )
Such pretty photos. I think Friendship should have been named Happiness. It's so cheerful.
Yeah Sandra, I'm afraid you're right...I think we crossed the line a long time ago, and I'm ok with it too! :)
ReplyDeleteNot extreme couponers, but maybe extreme Pyrex hoarders! Just adding my voice here echoing everyone else's opinion. (Even though we're in the midst of moving, but folks, before you get all worried, do rest assured that my Pyrex was lovingly and carefully packed, lol!)
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely happening! I found a Pyrex LID at Goodwill the other day for $3.95!! Just the lid, no bowl!
