It Hurts to be in Love

My sister has a friend who is an über collector of many thrifted things. She has sweetly offered to look out for Pyrex for me. I was told that she had a couple of old bowls for me and today was going to be my lucky day. I was so excited. What was it going to be? Butterprint, Primary? Ooohh, I could barely contain myself as we rolled up to her house...
Hmm...
The colour of tawny-coloured pantyhose. It can only be one pattern...
Yes, it's a set of Old Orchard bowls.
I must admit that I reacted like a someone losing for Best Supporting Actress. You know, when the camera pans over to the loser who's politely clapping and trying to look happy. While I'm grateful for this bowl set, it's just not what my heart desires. On the up-side I only have to pay $9 for the whole set. Just as I was leaving, my sister's friend whipped out two pristine Butterprint bowls and told me that she was looking for the rest in the set. Right there and then, I was regretting not wearing some bladder control product that day.

Oh well. When life gives you Old Orchard apples, you might as well make cider. Wha-wha!

  1. Lol! I guess there is a a downside to having others thrift for you. On the bright side, for $9 you have Pyrex bowls that you won't mind using and abusing. But bringing out her Butterprint was just cruel ...

  2. Ohhh, I know that feeling. I was exploring an old kitchen in Greece looking for Pyrex, and I saw a great condition, full set, in... Old Orchard. Grumble.

  3. Yes I know the feeling oh so well! My Pyrex soldiers are very well meaning but I get doozies and still have to look grateful and extatic!

  6. Aw poor Old Orchard gets a bad rap, it isn't the prettiest of patterns though!

  7. I saw this set at my local GW two different times and thought about it only briefly. It's not often I will pass up an entire set but that one I could live without.

  8. I just got a set of 4 of the 400 series mixing bowls in Old Orchard this weekend. Not my favorite, but I like it much better than some of the other newer (as in not 40s, 50s, or early 60s) patterns. I was just happy to get a complete set to use daily. And if they get banged up, oh well.

  9. I passed one of these by at Goodwill this summer. Now that it's fall, it seems like it'd be a decent seasonal pattern to have. Makes me want a caramel apple!

  10. Aw, I think I am the only one who genuinely wants this set. My mom had this set while I was growing up, so it's the only one I get nostalgic from.
