I made cornbread last night. I was having flash backs of childhood. I have no problems using my bowls to mix stuff up in. It's when I have to bake something in the oven.
That is when I kinda sorta panic and say NO BAKING in the precious Pyrex!!
I am just now using my Pyrex. Actually using it. Ok not all. Some. Ok just a few.

LOOK what my thrifty store does to me sometimes.
They write in marker on the Precious Pyrex.
I wanted to say WHO DID THIS?
Who is the one that keeps writing on the Precious Pyrex?
What is wrong with you people!
It's not GW or SA. It's my hidden gem of a store. I found 3 fridge dishes there. 2 red 1 blue. No lids. I left one red behind cause it was way way way way ultra way scratched up and way beyond faded that you could hardly make out that it was red. I did not feel guilty for leaving it behind either. If it was just faded I would have bought it. Oh and the reds had a sticker on it yet they felt the urge to mark on the blue?
Well your going to cringe when I tell you what I did to get this off. I used everything I could think of. I first just used water, soap and a towel. Not helpful. I used a cotton ball window cleaner. Nope. I then tried rubbing it off with spit and my shirt. So not helpful. I then saw nail polish remover next to the window cleaner. I used it. Very little. I was like well I rather see it faded in this area than that 2.99 mark on there for the rest of its life. Cause I already have one of those and I did not want another. So I used it. It took it right off. I am not going to recommend this. I am unsure of what will happen to your pattern or color. For me it just came off and no fading happened to my Pyrex.

I think it came off because the dish still had lots of color and was not faded like this dish was. There is no way to get off that 2.99 on the pink. I tried everything including the Magjic Eraser. I use this dish in the bathroom turned the other way so I don't have to see the number. I store my soap and goodies in there. What do you recommend on permanent marker? Do your stores do this to you?
It should come right off with a magic eraser.
ReplyDeleteAwww. Look at that porr, faded little miss fridgy dish! She is still being put to good use though! :)
ReplyDeleteI always use my pyrex, too. Actually, I used it to make corn muffins just last night :) Great minds think alike.
ReplyDeleteand ditto what Ana said-Magic Eraser takes it right off!
Yikes, I can't believe they use permanent marker right on there!
ReplyDeleteMagic eraser is a fine abrasive, it scratches. Try Goo Gone, I use it to get sharpie of books (pricing too). It works as long as it hasn't bled through.
ReplyDeleteI recently bought three Pyrex mugs, and they each had the price written on the bottom, in black marker. I had read about this phenomenon on the Collective, but this was my first encounter, and you're right - I thought "WHY?!!" I got it off with dish soap and a fine, soft scrub pad, but your problem sounds like it might be a bit more stubborn...!
ReplyDeleteMarker, heavens! My thrift stores here use a grease pencil, or stickers. I hope I never come across that.
ReplyDeleteThat's awful! I would ask to speak to the store manager, and take your other dish in to show them. I hope it's not a trend. I'm glad you could get it off your turquoise dish though.
ReplyDeleteFor permanent marker on metal or some plastics you can scribble over the writing with permanent marker and then wipe it off while the new ink is still damp.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this would work on Pyrex, but it's worth a shot.
Write over it with a Dri-Erase pen and it should wipe write off. I did that with a piece of Pyrex I bought at the Goodwill and it came right off.
ReplyDeleteHairspray can get ink out of clothes so it might be worth a try on the pyrex. It seems like thrift stores either haven't a clue about Pyrex and abuse it terribly or that they do know that we want it and jack up the price.
ReplyDeleteI have used rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip to get permanent marker off of plastics and such with no problems. Maybe that could work for Pyrex, too?
ReplyDeleteBar Keeper's Friend is worth a shot as well.
ReplyDeleteRubbing alcohol!
